Rang up to ask if I was still in contract (knew I wasn't!) as I'd seen some good deals for BT Infinity as my Sky broadband speed is absolutely shocking. Got put through to another guy who offered 6 months free sky fibre optic broadband, free router, free postage for router, free activation (£50 they wanted online!) and free installation :) Then he said "Oh your total bill is quite high, I can offer you 20% off of that for 12 months". Bit his hand off lol :)
  • That's not a great deal imo.

You can get that for new customers as Sky have been offering it for a long time. And you could have done better than 20% if you had held your nerve.

In reality, they won as they have you paying full price fibre from 6 months.

I'd spit his hand out if I were you.
  • Longstanding customer with BT for calls and unlimited broadband. Have called to renew and upgrade to the youview service as well.

The best deal they offered was:
No discount on the youview service
    A £2.90pm (£10.65 to £13.55) increase on my broadband
Additional £3.49pm for netprotect anti virus (currently free)

So leaving aside the youview service, BTs best deal for an existing customer is £5.39pm more than I am currently paying. I am normally quite good at getting discounts, but BT will not budge. I have contacted the chairmans office but got no joy. So it looks like I will leave. Have looked at talktalk but am wary of 18mth contract and bad service. Good Quidco deal for Sky, but will still be paying more than I had budgeted for.

There seems to be quite a bit of free sky on the go, I cancelled in jan and held out till April when they offered me six months free no contract. Just rang up to cancel at the end of the six months and I've been offered another six months free with no contract :D:j:j:T.
  • Well as per my post on the 18th sep, sky called me yesterday. Firstly offering me 50% off my tv package for 9 mth taking my bill from £79 to £50.50 , told her i'd need it lower for me to consider. She said ok, I can offer you 50% off you tv bill for 12 mths, no contract, plus free broadband new bill will be £43. I probably could have got more if I kept going, but I was happy with that. Everyone should at lease give it a go! :T
  • Just called and spoke to Bruce in cancellations department. Told him about this offer, best he could come up with was 25% discount, or the package you got for £40.00 (and a bit).

Looks like I'll be moving to YouView free from TalkTalk after all.

I left SKY in April after being a customer from the very beginning when there weren't many channels but they were all free. They didn't seem bothered to keep me so I moved to YouView which has been absolutely fine. I have ignored the letters offering me 25% off (why would I accept that when I left them based on that poor offer). More recently they upped the offer to 50% off - again I have ignored these. Today I received a phone call offering 50% off for a year - I refused, so I was then offered all channels inc movies and sport free for 6 months with no contract and no obligations. In addition they will send me the wireless connector for my sky box for free as well.

Seemed silly to turn it down really as it is worth over £300 at their over-inflated prices.

In my experience (Many years of being a BT customer before I eventually managed to escape to TalkTalk):

TalkTalk Customer support is crap unless you either a) get lucky and manage to get a UK agent or b) use the TalkTalk Forum

BTSupport is far far worse! I could not wait top be released from my contract after years of atrocious service

TalkTalk package prices - very very good value

    BT - Poor value

TalkTalk Speed - I changed several years ago and my speed jumped from just over 1M to 5.5 M overnight. This also happened for several of my neighbours who swapped.

BT Speeds were apalling and were never resolved in several years

Additional point to note - every problem I have had (aside from a couple of failed routers and a failed YouView box) has been down to the bit that BT is responsible for.

In my experience TalkTalk is a far better option than BT - Good Luck whatever you do.
    To infinity and beyond!
  • Hi,

Currently into week one of the four week notice period for sky and have a couple of questions I would like some help with
    1. If I let the period expire I will lose my sky + recordings! is this permanent or if I re-sign will the recordings be become available again?
    2. I currently have my privacy settings set to no calls, will this stop sky phoning or mailing me with stay with us offers?

    Many thanks

I received no offer from them since i said i was leaving a couple of weeks ago.

Bit the bullet and rang them saying I had been speaking to BT and had it all worked out for me switching broadband and call etc but liked the Sky TV channels and wanted to know how much it would cost to keep the sky tv extra. This lead into a conversation about how ive been with sky for years at previous addresses but the bt offer seemed too good.

I was paying £59.50 for TV extra (£37.50)
Broadband unlimited(£7.50) and line rental £14.50)

I am now paying £61.75 for the same plus skysports. Happy with that. Effectively a couple of quid a month for sky sports

( I also got rid of HD (so actually £51.75) which was a tenner ( if it is unbearable I will add it back in but seemed pricey. I didnt realise that you get all the domestic HD channels free anyway so it was only really for things like sky atlantic or football)

    1. yes they will become available again. I had no Sky+ for two years and my recordings were still there on reactivation.

    2. yes it will stop them - they won't contact you unless you allow them.
