I was paying £59.50 for TV extra (£37.50)
Broadband unlimited(£7.50) and line rental £14.50)

I am now paying £61.75 for the same plus skysports. Happy with that. Effectively a couple of quid a month for sky sports

SKY Entertainment Extra+ is only £32 - Sky Entertainment Extra (without the HD) is £27 so maybe they have been overcharging you?

surely they arent allowed to do that?
  • Clever Sky, they have retained you paying than you did. You'll say, yeah well I have Sky Sports, but for them it doesn't cost them anymore to switch the feed on on your account.

If you had the balls, you could have got a better deal with what you had but paying less.

to be fair I had already cancelled and heard nothing for 3 weeks, I also asked the guy five times if that was the best he could do as it didnt really appeal. At the end of the day I wanted skysports so I wasnt going to turn it down.

Having read stories on here of people who had cancelled and heard nothing I didnt want to be in that position
  • After reading your guide, I phoned up and managed to knock off £15 per month off my package (L BB, M TV and XL Phone) to £19 per month for a 12 months contract without much effort.

I was really surprised how easy it was.

    Thanks

Good luck to you. I'm in week 3 after cancelling and they rang once with a rubbish offer. I think to get the really great deals you need to let it run out or call them day before it cancels and say you're checking it's going off so you can arrange a virginmedia person to come around.

I still just understand why some without really trying get 50% off and some have to fight and fight to get anything off.
  • Got a phone call I missed last night from a 0191 number which is Sky in Newcastle area?

Should I ring them back on the premise that I was wondering why they called me or hang on, due to get cut off on the 17th of October?

I'm currently with Sky. I have the entertainment package, sports, HD and multiroom. Sports for football, wrestling and 'others' occasionally and HD is mainly for football.
I cancelled movies as I rarely watched them and my bill went down to £60odd quid but now with the price increase it's up to £70 a month. For that £70 I pretty much only use: Universal Channel, Alibi, Fox, Sky Sports 1,23,4, news, kids channels if I'm bored and want to watch cartoons, and the documentary channels (520 - 554) and are probably free anyway. So in theory I pay £70 a month to watch a handful of channels.

I'm in a none cable area so I can't get Virgin or TalkTalk TV which are the only other providers that do Universal channel, which pretty much cuts down my bargaining tool (ie I can't threaten to leave for cable rather than can't go somewhere else to watch Universal).

I don't even have an aerial so can't get freeview, freesat doesn't give me anything of what I watch and I can only get a maximum of 4mb internet so I can't even rely on sticking with online or downloads.
  • Thanks for all your posts of encouragement to barter with utilities companies. Thanks Martin! We finished our Sky contract and had a massive bill this month. Called to switch to freeSat through sky (which is free if you have a current sky box). They first offered half price for sky entertainment plus with sky movies, hd. I said it was to much for us right now, which it is, then they asked me to go on hold. Lady came back 2 minutes later and offered 75% off, £25 for most channels, movies and sports & hd, no contract, month to month. It pays to barter!

    Hello

I've been with sky for about 7 years and pay about £35 ish a month (for TV and b/band)

I have there broadband (which is free - i forget what they call it) but you get a 2gb monthly allowance.

I now want to get a better deal and am prepared to cancel if need be.

Do i need to cancel both (the b/band and tv) or do i cancel just the tv? Or just the b/band? Presumably if i cancel the tv element i would then have to pay for the broadband? Or is it worth just cancelling both?
