I'm with VM, XL TV, 60MG BB, M phone. I want to upgrade to tivo from my V+HD Box. Currently paying £63-66 per month. I've looked through quite a few pages on here which are mostly Sky related, so could anyone offer some tips.
The virgin site it says it will be £5 more per month but I think a phone call might get it for free? Anyone done anything similar?
Been with them 3 years on 2 contracts as I moved flat.
Many thanks0 -
Rang up and cancelled today. Could only offer me 10% discount!
Apparently I have had lots of deals and every time they offer me a new one it goes down in percentage??? Two years ago 50, then last year 20 and now 10.
Anyway, will wait for a phone call or email etc. If not can always ring back with the call a day before thing.Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.0 -
My elderly parents have been with Sky for 10 years. At my Dad's request i rang up to cancel Sky last week. Currently paying full price for EE & sports package. Only offer was 25% off Sky Sports for 3 months. I declined the offer & went through with cancellation.
Phone call from Sky today asking me why we were leaving. I explained that we are switching to Virgin as they have some good offers for new subscribers in my area, (which was true). Without any prompting he offered 50% off the current package for 12 months. I gladly accepted as my Dad was quite happy with the Sky service. :T
It does seem that to get the good deals, you have to be prepared to go through with the cancelation.0 -
Update: Cancelled 5 days ago.
Sky called today and offered half price internet and to move me to basic TV package at half price. Maybe they think I'm bluffing or would be turned by that deal.
There must be something I'm saying wrong, why would I pay even 1p for their basic freeview channels package. Last month new customers via voucherscodes were being offered half price TV including movies and Sky Sports for 12 months AND free internet for a year. I told them this and they still made their rubbish offer.0 -
I cancelled Sky a couple of weeks ago TV broadband and calls and got a letter confirming SKY TV viewing will stop but that they are 'delighted I want to continue with Sky broadband and talk services'.
When I rang and said this isnt the case, they said it is until we hear from someone like BT who want to take over the line.
Bearing in mind I wouldnt mind staying with them that much but want a better deal, do I go ahead and organise something with BT that triggers SKY maybe offerig me a better deal or is there a danger if I do that I will then be committed to taking BT
Or are they pulling a fast one?
thanks for any ideas.0 -
Well after reading this forum I bit the bullet and cancelled sky. just got off the phone to them. Been a loyal customer for over 8 yrs with the full package, tv movies sports, broadband, phoneline £79pm. Ive never had any offers. Called up, and the best I got offered was 20% discount for 6 mths on my tv package reducing it to £67pm! no thanks, continue with cancellation pls. so he did. oh well...lets wait and see....0

Just off the phone with sky. Was speaking to a Scottish guy. Last time I threatened to cancel last year I was out through to a foreign call centre and offered 50% off pretty much straightaway. Tonight I explained I wanted to cancel as couldnt justify paying so much every month. He cancelled me straightaway. Asked if I wanted to downgrade my package but I declined that as well. Waiting game now begins. If I haven't heard from them do I ring the day before my disconnection date?0

No, hang in there.
We went over a month without sky, waited for the "come back to us" letter offering 50% off and then waited another week. We then rang and said we were interested but didn't really want to pay full price for HD which wasn't subject to 50% reduction. Girl on phone said sorry best they could do was that no other offers. So we said thanks anyway and goodbye......
"Please hang on there for a second sir.............."
They came back with everything free for six months if we paid full price on HD with no contract. So we have every sky channel for £5.25 per month.

The only way you could do that is by signing up to another provider who would then contact Sky and arrange the transfer... I would guess that once it gets that far down the line Sky would be unable to stop the process.
The way to get discount on BB and phone is ring them and ask for your MAC code saying you are leaving for X provider because they are cheaper... I did this, first person I spoke to just said "you don't need a MAC, just sign up for the other provider and they will contact us to sort the transfer" and that was it.... so I called back a few days later and tried again and eventually got offered £10 per month for phone AND internet (so including line rental).A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
