  • I phoned up for 3 days and got everything for 29 quid still no contract and didnt leave at any point my was just blagged.
  • I called Sky yesterday and as a new customer, after refusing a few offers because too expensive, I was offered a 12 months contract with Sky entertainment extra + with Sky Sports and Sky Movies, plus free unlimited broadband and phone included for £39 per month. Free installation and I guess it's a Sky HD standard box, I have forgotten to ask for the 2TB box.... I think it's good deal. The only problem is that I am more after a good broadband (Fibre is not available where I live) than the TV and having Sky Sports and Movies. That's why I kept refusing the deals offered until he offered that one.
  • That's the deal I got for 29 pounds mth and im same cant get sky fibre yet but im getting like 10mb download and 2mb upload its not bad for what I use it for.
  • When I cancelled Sky, the retention team was stroppy and gave me a hard time for cancelling and then slated the opposition providers. They tried offering me a discount on one thing but then said I'd have to remove something else. Terrible. And I have had Sky for years paying between £60-£80 a month with all three services - TV, Phone and BB.

    Virgin here I come.

It does depend on who you speak to and what time I think.

It's their job to try and stop you leaving, but they don't just offer discounts carte blanche, I'm afraid.

Again, you are using your own personal experience and applying it across the board. It does not depend who you speak to, it depends whether their are offers available on your account for them to use as an incentive to stay. It does help to be polite but firm, though.

I doubt you'll find much difference with Virgin (other than a few missing channels), but it's also true that swapping providers is certainly a way to cut costs as long as you are prepared for the upheaval involved.
  • I was very polite and after their offer, firm that I wanted to leave.

I think each advisor has a quota of what they can offer or performance based bonus on what they don't.

Some people are paying less than me but get discounts. There's no way they'd prefer keeping others who pay less over ones that pay more. that makes no sense. So yes, I do think it matters who you speak to.

Why would they look at my account who spends £80 a month and not think it's worth keeping over someone who pays £40 a month?????
  • Not just about luck I did every blag in the book to get full set up and channels for 29 pounds a month trust me its hard work.
  • So you keep saying. What is every blag in the book exactly...

Sky would rather you continue to pay the full price of £80 and the hypothetical £40 customer do the same.
It's a fallacy that Sky would prefer to have you paying something than nothing, below a certain level you cease to be profitable.
As I said earlier, it's not some "lottery" whereby some are offered all and others nothing-there are strictly defined criteria which will determine what level (if any) of deal you may be offered.

I would also take with a pinch of salt some of the more outrageously generous deals that are being bandied about both here and on other forums.
  • Sky offering a pinch of salt as well? Wow. I'll sit tight and hold out for that.
