Do i need to cancel both (the b/band and tv) or do i cancel just the tv? Or just the b/band? Presumably if i cancel the tv element i would then have to pay for the broadband? Or is it worth just cancelling both?
If you don't cancel everything you'll remain a Sky customer and won't be offered as good a retention deal. Regardless, cancelling TV will mean you automatically have to start paying for broadband and I doubt you'll be much better off.

I don't even have an aerial so can't get freeview, freesat doesn't give me anything of what I watch and I can only get a maximum of 4mb internet so I can't even rely on sticking with online or downloads.

We use an indoor mini aerial (the type with a rigid plastic 'wing' ) to show Freeview programmes on an hd recorder, plugged into an analogue tv . It has an electric booster, but gives good enough reception without this. Bought from Argos, it cost well under £20.
  • I'm with Virgin and pay £40 a month for 30mb broadband, a landline and the most basic tv package. The tv choices are awful, they'll buy 4 episodes out of a 6 part series and not bother buying the rest! The phone calls are really expensive! The broadband seems slow, I'm a photographer so I need good broadband for uploading massive files to clients. Can anyone recommend who to switch to for better broadband, value and tv options? I'm not bothered about having a landline

Well that was easy, called to cancel as my 75% off has just ended, asked a few questions what I use, pritty much leaving as its too expensive at normal price. I was asked if I would stay if offered another year at 75% off.... YEP!

I just took up half price fibre the other month along with 12 months half price phone line rental (was already on BB with sky for 2 years.

I did have 50% off sky tv year before last but before that was paying around £150 a month as had 6 multirooms (big boys house), couls be due to paying loads for years?

I actually think you'll struggle to get a better Broadband service than Virgin. If you are truly experiencing problems uploading "massive files to clients", then you need a business connection not another supplier.
I do agree telephone services from Virgin are expensive and their TV offering is second rate compared to Sky.
  • Great advice in this thread.

In the past i've said i can't afford it e.t.c and been offered the odd discount here and there.

Finally went through with the cancellation and a few weeks later received a call being offered 50% off.

Also managed to bag free broadband.

We cancelled in June this year, and they did call us back twice with offers. Both times they called us within the last week of the month cancellation period.

We were paying around £75 per month for line rental, calls, unlimited broadband, sports, entertainment extra.

I told then we wanted nothing and wanted to cancel the lot as we have 2 kids in private nursery and couldnt afford it any longer.

Offered half-price TV, which I said no. And then offered completely free tv for 6 months.

So our bill was £75, now its £27 (line rental, calls and broadband)

Surely free tv for 6 months, then at full price for 6 months, is the same as half price for the year ?

^^^^ oh and added to above.....

We had a sky+ box and it stopped working yesterday.

We phoned sky and they informed us they no longer do sky+ boxes and its just hd boxes.

My other half assumed this would cost, but without having to haggle sky are coming out to install an hd box, box and installation totally free!

Yes, of course it is, but after the 6 month completely free I would be looking for another discount for the second half of the year, rather than going back to full price! At least I would try!
