The recorded stuff will stay on your box but you won't be able to access it without a subscription.

Sky are definitely doing 50% off for 12 month deals at the moment (inc free Sky+ box and installation) as I have just had a phone call from them after entering a competition the other day....

Asked them to give me a call back on Tuesday so I can think about it but very tempted, especially if I can get them to throw in anything extra like F1 or a free wireless adapter thingy to seal the deal ;)
Top Wins - £1,900 ITV Real Deal, titanium bike frame, 55" TV & 12m Sky Q, signed guitar, 7 night eco break, 100 iTunes credits, Blu-ray player, PS4, TV/blu-ray player/speakers/PS3, Bike Lock, tix to Marc Almond, Bon Jovi, Charlatans, PiL & backstage with Peter Hook & Howard Marks
  • I have been paying around £120 per month for Sky HD with all channels, sky talk, and unlimited broadband 8MB.

Got offered sweet naff all today to stay with them so I've signed with Virgin Media online (via topcashback to get a tidy whack back!) -

    My pack will be:

    Fibre broadband 100mb speed
TV XL with sports and movies
    Talk unlimited extra
    Tivo Box 1TB
    2nd HD box free
    HD Channels
    Spotify Premium

Free installation and will be paying £64.49 (inc line rental) for the first 12 months.

They will be coming out on the 17th August to sort it and I've emailed SKY my cancellation today.

Am I right in thinking that Virgin take over broadband/phone themselves or will I need a MAC code?

    Thoughts welcome.

Virgin broadband is fibre. What you currently have is ADSL so there will be no takeover so you wont need the MAC code (MAC is for ADSL takeover).

The Virgin installer will run a new cable from the pavement to your house and that will carry all the services. The BT line will be redundant.

I would also call sky up to confirm that you are giving them your notice. Emails are easy to ignore and you dont want to slip into a new billing period.

Thanks - appreciated! I will definately call them up tomorrow.

evanjonesaber -also be aware that you will be charged a cease fee by Sky as they will pass on the BT Openreach charge for disconnecting your b/band at the exchange -this is standard with (almost) all ISPs.

Ran Sky up last week to try and get a cheaper price on my Sky Sports + internet package, most specifically on broadband considering I'm paying £14.50 line rental + £7.50 unlimited broadband, and there are some much better offers out there at the moment.

I was offered free broadband and the line rental reduction to effectively £9.75 a month for signing up for 12 months more. I'm out of my first 12 months now, so I need to check with them if this 12 months signs me up for further 12 months with my TV package at full price as well, or just the broadband element.

If it's the TV package, I may look at cancelling, but I can't get Virgin unfortunately so fewer options to swap.

Oh thanks - do you know how much roughly this is!

I've spent a lot of time trying to get my package reduced on the basis of the current competitive offers and, after much discussion,I have managed to get 1/2 price Sports from Sky for the next 6 months,a competitive reaction to BT etc...
So £21 per month for Sky Sports now becomes £10.50 which is not only a good saving but actually great value.
Well done Sky but we'll be back again in the New Year!
