Not if you went to the Sky site to order.

What was the "small upfront payment" for?
It was the Sky site. I thought the link the agent supplied could be some bogus copy cat website... but that seems far fetched. The offer came at quite a surprise as I was about to go for their 6 months half price offer which is advertised on numerous websites, so to get the full contract on a discount (and it being served on a plate!) is quite lucky.

The upfront payment is usually £10 and comes off your first bill. It's like a deposit.
    Yes that's right, although I paid £5.

I'm much more relaxed about it all now! Hopefully I'll get the Sky confirmation email by tomorrow.

New customers looking at Sky: It's worth contacting their Live Chat crew and asking about offers. You might end up with someone who's desperate to sell. I managed to get:

    - 50% off TV Sports Package.
    - Free Sky HD+ Box and standard installation.
    - £25 M&S Voucher.

    = £21.25 p/m.

    Morning all,

Is there any Virgin Media discounts being offered to current customers? Going to ring later to try to renegotiate contract?

    Thanks

If you want some sort of deal, you'll have to be prepared to leave VM

Are they only budging if you tell them you are leaving?

    Why would they otherwise?
  • We've been with Sky a couple of years. The contract had expired so I just rang up to see what they could do.

They offered our current package (currently costing £44.05) for £25.75pm, or £46.75 with the sports package.

Any thoughts? Should we push a bit harder and maybe go down the cancellations route, or does that seem like a decent enough offer?

    Thanks.

Okay, I'm going to give Sky a ring in a bit to see if I can get a better deal as I'm now out of contract for both the TV and BB. My questions...should I haggle for each individually or all together (...the TV and the BB)? The other question is this...if I do threaten to cancel and they say go ahead, if I don't hear from them within 30 days and I chicken out and phone them to re-activate me, have I then entered a new 12 month contract??

'Nice' companies who give discounts for no reason thus reducing their revenue stream probably wont last for very long.

Companies who offer a discount when a customer has given their notice because:

    a) Something is better than nothing.
    b) It costs more to recruit a new customer than it does to maintain an existing one.

    Might last a bit longer.

In short, as is the generic answer to every time people ask the question in this thread, if you want a 'deal' then you call up and give your notice as this shows you are serious about leaving.

If you are 'fishing' and don't really want to leave then don't be surprised if you don't get offered anything.
