Well they have different channel line-ups, with Freesat having more channels but lacking some popular ones like Dave. The full Freeview line-up isn't available everywhere - some places only have "Freeview Lite". You can check what transmitter they'd receive using this website.
Freeview (and thus YouView) will be getting up to 11 new HD channels by early 2014, we have no idea if Freesat will get any of these at this point.
Aside from that, Freesat provides generally higher image quality and requires a dish, whereas Freeview/YouView just requires an aerial.
So pros and cons with both.0 -
I am looking for some advice re my Sky package, I have been with Sky 2 and half years without phoning up for any discounts etc below. However, I keep hearing about everyone getting fairly decent deals when phoning up.
I am paying £65.50 which is made up of Entertainment Extra with Sports HD and ESPN
£7.50 Sky Broadband Unlimited
£19.50 Sky Talk Line Rental with Sky Talk Anytime

Hi just an enquiry really i am currently on a sky 50% off package that is due to finish on the 24th July. I rang cancellations today to find out if they would keep me on the offer for another year and was told because there was this current half price offer on my account they couldn't do anything until 24th July. Has anyone else had this? Or were you able to get another ahlf price offer for another year while still on one? Any help would be great, i dont want to get sucked in to waiting until July then there no offfers and i have to end up paying £80-£90 a month. Thanks0

I've seen a few people on this thread post that they have also been told this. How true it is I don't know, but it seems plausible to me that they can't add another discount while one is still ongoing.
I guess you are just going to have to work out whether you could afford to pay the full price for one month - while you served your notice period - if they weren't able to give you a further discount in July. If the answer is no, then the safe option is to give your notice now.0 -
Each year I have called up to give (and have given) my notice period. And each year they have applied another discount so that it runs back to back as soon as my existing one expires.
The having to be on full price for 1 month is incorrect so I would call again.0 -
I'm really looking forward to asking if there's any discounts available on my account in August. I bet they won't even be able to make sense of my account to the point where they won't even know if I'm a customer. :rotfl:0

Hi!
Has anyone purchased a new customer Sky subscription via their Live Chat facility? This just happened to me and I found it strange as I didn't know their agents could do this.
I'll try and keep it short:
I opened up a live chat to ask about their standard installation and "Invite a Friend" offer. The agent then said he/she could do much better and offered 50% half price for 12 months, which I found rather odd being a new customer (current offer is 6 months). He sent me a link to a page with desired package options already chosen (Sky "build your bundle" page) with a 50% discount added (this was noted under the offer section in small red font). I went ahead and filled out the order form which all seemed legit and encryption enabled. He required I keep the chat window open throughout the process.
Does this sound suspicious? Like I said, everything seemed 100% legit - filled out my name, house details, chose an installation date, entered direct debit details and the small upfront payment via credit card (verfication was required). I'm very surprised I was offered such a generous offer and have a nagging feeling I'm the victim of an extremely well built trap. Am I being paranoid?0 -

The upfront payment is usually £10 and comes off your first bill. It's like a deposit.0
