I'm not really interested in Youview and plan to ebay the unit and pick up the HDR-1000s Freesat box so I can use the DLNA media streaming functionality from my home server.
.....doesn't the Youview box remain the property of BT ? Thought that they could demand it back if you leave??0 -
I was prepared to cancel and they just said ok, and never offered me any discount. But I had to say I needed to think about it in the end, cos my dad and brother would miss the sports channels. Its them who actually pay for sky, its just in my name
At the end of the day you can give your 31 days notice, call up an day 30 and say you have changed your mind. The cancellation request will then be cancelled and is continues on as normal.
Therefore you have nothing to lose by issuing the cancellation request and seeing what happens in the next 30 days.
However, if its not you that pay for it then maybe you should discuss it with the people who do first as I would be annoyed if I paid for something that then didn't work because someone else had done something to the account without asking.0 -
I've often wondered about this. The Sky card gets entitlement updates well in advance - usually 2 months. So if you cancel within 30 days, does it keep working until that runs out, or do they send more updates to remove entitlements?0

And what if your Sky box is off on that day and the card doesn't receive the kill signal?0 -
They actually remove the entitlement from the card rather than 'kill' it. The command is in the constant stream of metadata that comes down with the signal so if your box is not on at the time the command is sent, the next time the box is turned on it will pick it up.0

See that's interesting because if you use an HTPC, you can disable entitlement updates, which would presumably stop the removal of them too. Obviously you'd be illegally receiving channels without paying. You're right though, they can't kill the card because it'd still be valid for Freesat From Sky.0

New Sky install last week on the 1/2 price for 1 year MSE deal.
Rang up yesterday to ask about HD and he told me it was £10.25 a month. I enquired about any offers and he told me I could get it for half price for 6 months then 6 months at £10.25. I said I heard there was a 12 month deal going and he went off for a few minutes and then came back and said I could have it for half price for the year. If I wasn't having the sports package I wouldn't have bothered with the HD upgrade but it does look much nicer on a 42" screen.
Sky TV + Entertainment Extra + Sports + HD for £28.75 a month. Happy with that and will cancel in a years time and go back to Freeview unless I get a similar price.0 -
Still working at 10.55am. Another question, once Sky subscription services are "killed" will I see the Sky EPG with "Killed" channels greyed or missing or will I see FreeSat EPG, just wondering about channel numbers?0
-
Channel numbers don't change on a Sky box no matter what package you have (except the HD swap). It's one of the disadvantages of Freesat From Sky - there's loads of channels on the EPG that you can't watch and have no way to disable!
You can make favourites list but it's limited to something like 40 channels I think.0 -
The EPG is left with the full details to tempt people to sign up again. If they dont see what they are missing out on then there is no incentive to rejoin again.0
