How long did you wait before they called?? I've just had to cancel as on SMP and despite this they would only offer £10 off when I pay over £100 a month for everything?

I cancelled just over a week ago so it only took them around 9 days to ring.

We were paying £85, when I cancelled they said there were no deals at all.

Thing is, I would have actually gone through with the cancellation if they hadn't rung.

Hi short changed - thanks for that I guess we've got to hope were lucky! They told me today offers are being reviewed and stopped. I've just got to take the chance hopefully something will come good otherwise oh will implode with no sport especially f1 :(

They said the same to me.

When they rang back to see why I cancelled I said, to be blunt its too expensive and I was told there were no deals when I called to cancel..... His reply was that it wasn't the case and he then did the 50% off.

There are deals out there if your prepared to put the cancel in and accept the fact that they may or may not offer you a retention discount. And you may be cut off if they don't.

I've also read on here that they only call once so if you miss the call that's it.

Any scope to re-negotiate this do u think with Virgin:

    Bundle Charges

    Talk Weekends
    Fully Itemised Billing
    T V Size: X L
    2 Additional V Box
    V+ HD Monthly Fee
    TiVo Monthly Fee
    Extra Set Top Box Discount
    Broadband Size: L
    Loyalty Customer

    Bundle Charges total
    £51.00

    Promotional offer(s)
    CR £11.00

    Total excluding line rental £40.00

(You'Re Receiving A £11 Loyalty Discount. If You Change Your Package You May Lose This Discount Which Will End 01-DEC-13 )

One of the extra boxes they gave without charge is in cupboard, we don't watch hardly any of the tv channels but the kids will lose a couple of the ones if we downgraded. Any advice or am I getting such a good deal that there is no scope to change?

You're already receiving £11 a month loyalty discount!

If you pay an extra subscription for the box which resides in a cupboard, I'd think your best option would be to return it to Virgin and so cancel the extra sub.

If you really watch little TV then you might consider cancelling the TV sub altogether and going Freeview. The problem is that your account is already discounted, so you'd probably save little even then

I phoned to cancel Sky last night.

Was on the phone for 45 minutes with Sky telling me I shouldnt cancel because nowhere else is as good as Sky. Virgins "Sky Movies" are "not as good as Sky's" apparently etc etc etc.

    Currently pay £75 pm for:

    Entertainment + Extra
    Unltd Broadband
    Weekend Calls
    Sky Movies

All they offered me was a £5 line rental discount if I signed up for 12 months.

I told them to shove it
  • Hi,

As promised, this is the rest of the story about the problems some of us had with the 50% off codes given on MSE (11 February). After endless discussions with Sky - promotion team, investigation team and billing team! - I finally had it figured out. For those who live in flats there's no need for a mini dish and Sky outsourced the installation to third parties. The correct info was given to the third party, including the discounted price, but after the installation confirmed the info on my account was that of a new client contracting their services directly through a third party, without any discounts! The only way to solve the problem is to contact the third party and tell them about the problem. They will contact Sky team which will input the correct info on your account.

Long story short, now I will pay the first bill full price followed by 12 months with the 50% discount price (but I still can cancel after 12 months if I want to), I got confirmation that I will get the £25 M&S voucher after 45 days and to say they're sorry 2 months free for the HD package (this last one you have to get it by talking directly to Sky - they might accept it or not, after all you are getting a very good deal with the discount :) ).

I hope this info helps MrMadCat and others who might have the same problem with the codes. It all comes down to information being lost when you introduce a middleman into the business.

Thanks again MSE for the offer!

Has anyone had any experience with the guys that sell Sky on the street, in a shopping centre or whatever? Can they make decent offers?
  • As a returning customer to Sky the best I have been offered today is a reduction from £64.50 to £48.37 per month:

    Broadband unlimited - £7.50
    Line rental - £14.50
    1 box & Sky Go - free
    Standard def and Sports pack
    Install - free

Do you think I should be able to beat this? It seems high to me.

    Thanks

    Pilg.

No i think the box is free. I have considered Freeview with PVR but I guess that would be a few quid plus would need an aerial installing as we don't have one.

Nothing different from list and you miss out on the cashback of up to £200 (dependent on offers) which you get by signing up yourself online...
