  • Bear in mind though you'll likely be paying full price for 6 months too.

Yes, I realise that. We were on a 25% discount for a year which is essentially the same plus a better box. If they'd offered the 25% when I initially called Sky then I'd have taken it.

    Hi all
    New time poster here.
Just need some advice. I originally had sky with a friends and family discount. That came to an end, and wasn't offered much of a good deal. So therefore I went months without sky, i was given half price offers etc, i refused them, then all of a sudden I got a deal saying come back for a £50 credit and sky entertainment pack, including movies sports hd at about £23.50 a month (i think) which I took.

Anyways this offer came to an end. I only realised when I looked at my bill and noticed they are going to charge me £56ish. Noticed the offer I was on coming to an end in March.

I called to cancel today. The scottish guy i spoke to, said that he cannot offer anything when I have an offer on my package. All he can do is possibly take some things away from my package to bring the cost down. However I didn't want to pay more than I paid before and didn't want to lose anything that I was watching before. I ended up just giving 30 days cancellation notice, because they couldn't give me anything.

What should I do now. Should I call them up again and see if they can offer, or shall i let the service get cancelled and then see if I get any calls or emails about any offers?

    thanks in advance

Cancel or decide if you want to pay full price (in the absence of any offers).

Yup I have given 1 month notice to cancel. However wondering if they will end up calling me to offer anything new during this 30 day period or if it will be after a few months.

Depends on your spend, what products you have, what offers are available, what way the wind is blowing...

Chances are you will get offered something at some point as its cheaper to retain than recruit new i.e. something is better than nothing.

I have sky plus hd box with the entertainment pack all sky sports and sky movie channels and HD was paying about £23 a month. Without this offer price I would be paying about £86 a month. They offered to take sky movies away from me and ask me to pay about £50 odd pound a month today. I said nope as I didn't want to pay more than what my current offer price is.

Thats fair enough and a good stance to take. You can still call up on day 29 and ask for it to be reinstated so have nothing to lose by giving your notice.

Sit tight and see what (if anything) is offered.
  • My first years sky contract is up in the next two weeks so rang in to get a better deal. The guy on the other end was totally useless and offered me £65pm for my existing package of Sports, HD, entertainment, talk weekend and unlimited broadband.
The saving in effect was only £10pm compared to the full price. It meant he was asking for more than the average i paid in my first yr, due to the benefits of quidco and m&s vouchers. So naturally I said I would like to cancel the TV.

The question I have for you experts is if I should threaten to quit the whole package including the phone and broadband, or just the TV.
  • Just phoned up. Just had a half price tv offer end the other day. I have Sky top package sports Movies etc. 2 multi rooms and 2 hd's and broadband, line rental and calls.I was paying £100 with the deal and it was going up to £123 I threatened to cancel the lot and and got another deal for 6 months. Including free line rental, half price sport and a few other things including multi room cheaper and it has dropped to £77.

    Happy with that.
  • Been with Sky for TV for about 16 years (more before but there was a break). Never really had any discounts applied except as new customer or when adding a new service which itself was discounted for a short time. Moved land line and broadband over to Sky in 2011, so well out of contract.
I pay over £110 a month, £85 for TV alone.
What prompted me to look was seeing the annual figure, I paid £1323 to Sky in past 12 months.
I called today and was put through to cancellations, oddly the first girl I spoke to (not cancellations) said to make sure they believed I was going through with the cancellation as I should be able to get good discounts applied.
Sadly turned out not to be the case.
The girl dealing from cancellations said no discounts available so I asked to cancel, date given but then the call dragged on for ages. After a lot of talk about other providers not being the same, and about 20 minutes, an offer appeared - sadly only £10 off a month for 12 months.
So going through with cancellation, we'll see if a decent offer appears as I'm only cancelling due to cost but not expecting it.
I'm not in a cable area so need to see what services I can have and if not maybe FreeView with some Pay channels will work out cheaper....off to check
