Never really had any discounts applied except as new customer or when adding a new service which itself was discounted for a short time. Moved land line and broadband over to Sky in 2011, so well out of contract.
I pay over £110 a month, £85 for TV alone.
What prompted me to look was seeing the annual figure, I paid £1323 to Sky in past 12 months.
I called today and was put through to cancellations, oddly the first girl I spoke to (not cancellations) said to make sure they believed I was going through with the cancellation as I should be able to get good discounts applied.
Sadly turned out not to be the case.
The girl dealing from cancellations said no discounts available so I asked to cancel, date given but then the call dragged on for ages. After a lot of talk about other providers not being the same, and about 20 minutes, an offer appeared - sadly only £10 off a month for 12 months.
So going through with cancellation, we'll see if a decent offer appears as I'm only cancelling due to cost but not expecting it.
I'm not in a cable area so need to see what services I can have and if not maybe FreeView with some Pay channels will work out cheaper....off to check
@ Lesley thats shocking service, considering how much you have paid out to sky.
I have decided I am just going to do away with Sky, and not even take up any offer they give me.
End of the day when it comes to movies, i can get these online, when it comes to sports, I can watch my fav football at the gym. When it comes to pausing live tv etc, I just have to go back to the old days, and quickly go to the loo and come back lol. Or ask someone else in the house and ask (what happened). HD well the free ones like BBC One etc I can still watch them using the box. I was pondering moving over to BT You View, however now to think of it I will give it a pass. With BT You View its mainly the free view channels that I will already get, through my tv and through the free channels on sky. Again with recording, I wont need that either. So thats my mind made up.0 -
With who?.....Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Sorry with Sky;)0

Thanks Immzi - I must admit I wondered if I was being unreasonable for a minute so good to read your reply!
Been doing some searching and tending to agree with you but also thinking, if I stayed I'd be paying a minimum of just over £1k to Sky for TV in the next year, I have some room to purchase a PVR add a few top up channel monthly subs and it would still be a huge saving even in first year!
Also, although there isn't a huge saving for broadband and land line, I'll probably move this too,0 -
Just to let anyone know if they're interested there is a Humax direct website that are selling refurbed or returned boxes grade A foxsat 320gb for £129 and 500gb for £149 both complete with 1 year warranty. Under the managers specials.0

I will if they offer me half price. If I don't hear from them within three weeks I'll call and see.
Out of interest does anyone know if I buy a HD Freesat box, will it work with the existing Sky dish or will I need some other equipment to what I already have?0
