  • We are on a basic package at around £23 a month and need to reduce monthly outgoings. Phoned Sky this evening, adamant to cancel. The best they would offer me was a 10% discount for 12 months. I realise we are not their best ever customer, so fair enough. 31 days' notice duly given.

    True not the most profitable of customers, but 50% of 23 is surely better than zero.

    Or call them up and tell them what another company is offering you... especially Sky, they hate losing customers to Sky

    I phoned Virgin up this morning,hoping to get a good deal(getting sports channels back) Spoke with a Sky bloke up town earlier in the morning,they offered phone,broadband,270 channels,between 60 and 70 were HD,and a spare box for the conservatory(got a v box in there at the moment). Sky said £69.95. Phoned Virgin,they wern't having any. They said they cannot give any more discounts as they have to charge what Sky has charged for the channels. Because i knocked the Sports channels off in Nov,they said i was in a 12 month contract. So i said i would go back to Sky,they said as i had 9 months of my contract left,i would have to pay £180 to get out the contract and give 30days notice. So come next Oct/Nov,i'll be giving Virgin their 30 days notice.
    Do you still need a BT line to get Sky package?
  • we tried to reduce our sky bill. We pay roughly £60 for HD TV, phone and unlimited broadband.

    they weren't having it really, even when I tried to play off Virgin and their fibre broadband in our area and their 6 month 50% off.

    The only thing I managed to get was a £5 off line rental and they said they could do a 10% discount on our TV for 12months (contracted).

    Any tips if I decide to call back and try a bit harder. Not really that keen on switching to Virgin because don't want to lose Atlantic, but the broadband is superfast and £60pm is a lot for what we're really getting.

    Another update if anyone is interested.... I'm still waiting for a phone call back from VM retention's. I first phoned on Thursday at 4:30pm and was told they would call me back, 24 hours later I still hadn't received a call so phoned back again saying I wanted to leave, told the girl on the phone the situation and that I was fuming! She said what had happened was 'disgusting' and tried emailing the manager of outbound retention's but it wouldn't send. She then told me the only communication they had with them was by email or form's they fill in that are passed on. She proceeded to fill in the said form and told me it could take 48 hours for a call back...... That was 4:30pm on Friday, so were now around 68 hours after the phone call. This is the first problem I've had with VM, I thought they would want to keep my custom.... Obviously not :( :mad:

    Hopefully it's resolved now...... Finally got a call back today, they caught me doing my shopping in Morrisons! As an apology, they have upgraded my broadband from 30mb to 60mb and given me £40 credit on my account.

    So in the end I've gone from;

    In 1 room - V+ HD box, XL tv with Sky Sports, M phone and 20mb Broadband for £74pm.

    To;

    3 boxes - Tivo box, V+ HD box and a basic box, XL tv with Sports, M phone and 60mb Broadband for £85pm but £20 off for first 6 months and £40 credit.

    Eighth Anniversary
    Had cancelled my Sky package, was due to be cut off on Feb 17th, got a letter confirming, then another offering me half price sports and movies. Got the phone call last night, 50% off package for the next 12 months, no tie in. Seemed reasonable and I now feel it offers value for money. So I took it.
  • Hi there
    Does anyone know if the 50% discount codes from money saving expert for the sky packages allow us to go via quidco etc as well to maximise benefit.
    Many thanks

    Interesting to read what OP's have been getting offered .

    I find myself coming up to the first 12mths of having Sky & likewise to what i do with BT & O2 when it comes to end of contract they usually give me a better deal to renew .

    Just phoned Sky & all i was offered was the HD(already have & like) for half price saving a fiver a month ,i was advised that as i am 5 weeks away from the full 12mth period if i was to call back within the 31 day period towards the end of contract that there may be additional offers they could offer me so on the note i said i would call back in a weeks time with the intention of getting a better deal or cancelling .

    I'll post what the outcome is .

    Quite happy to cancel as i will then renew through TCB & take advantage of the £100 cash back & £25 voucher offer ,if it's still on .
    Gotta love a good bargain !
