I was always told you can get what you want when it comes to the art of haggling. I only want to do it so I don't have to switch providers as I know that a lot of people have problems with switching to SkyPDL Free!

I think you have a very good chance of reducing your costs, if you say I've seen this deal from Sky and they are offering x,y,z which is better suited to my needs. Do VM have a similar offering and how much does that cost? Check what Vm are offering new customers, I have used this in the past to get a better deal out of Sky (what I mean is, I'm with Sky but have checked what I would get as a new Sky customer, why should I pay more than a new customer?)
I'm always wary of the customer services people, they don't always highlight the best way to reduce your bill in my experience.0 -

Not much cheaper than your current deal with Virgin.
Hardly a great bargaining tool when you ring Cable, but it might net you a similar six month reduction.0 -
its got nothing to do with who you speak to, you need to get past the first person, they may or may not make an offer but you need to tell them you are cancelling and leave it at that. Near the time ring up and tell them you had a missed call or the husband or wife took the call and they couldnt speak about the account. They will then give you an offer, refuse it, a week before cut off call again same lines, the offer will be higher than the last. If all else fails let it cancel and then call the "new" customer line you will then get a better or equal deal to the last one. take it its all they can give. number to call once cancelled 08442 411 9140

That part always annoyed me. They are willing to give deals for new customers but existing customers are left in the lurch. How is that fair?PDL Free!

Our Sky bill is very high, we have a couple of packages, phone and broadband, we've been with Sky for years - I was doing some research to see if we could reduce payments in any way since they are offering the same as we've got for about half the price if you're a new customer. The bloke from the call centre seemed a bit remedial as he was unable to say a definitive yes or no as to if there was a way to reduce the price without having to chop off some of our services. The only option apparently is to do that - or leave, which is what we are about to do. There was no mention of any discounts.
I'm just thinking either best to get freesat and new BB supplier - or leave sky and join as a new customer as the incentives are higher than staying with them as an existing one. Does anyone know if theres anything preventing us doing that as we are partial to sky atlantic?
It seems SKY's new custom is favoured over old. In fact most companies seem to operate like that, I left orange after 20 years for their absence of loyalty schemes, do they care? of course not.0 -
I'm thinking of contacting Virgin Media to say I am leaving to see if they will give us any deal regarding our package. Though I am concerned if they say OK to leaving them. If I do phone them up and they say that is fine we'll cancel your account in XX days can I then turn around and say "on second thoughts I'll stick with you"
We've had a deal with them for past two years which is that we get the XL TV package for the price of L.0 -

Rather than just saying you want to leave, ask if they have any retention offers. Be ready to counter anything they come up with like you're on the cheapest package already; Oh but I really need to make savings! I'd rather cut the price down, than have to cancel the lot.
Also if you aren't so happy with what is suggested, try another day, another person.
You probably want to speak to the retentions team about it.
I don't know how receptive they are with requests like that, but it doesn't hurt to say now the deal is over you enjoy having the XL package, but must make savings as you'll be paying the full package price, and that you would only benefit by using the XL package, rather than the L package.
Be cheeky, it never hurts0 -
Or call them up and tell them what another company is offering you... especially Sky, they hate losing customers to Sky4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
