Just had a call from VM retention's 4 day's after I cancelled. Maybe not as good a deal as some have got but I'm happy......

I was getting - In 1 room - V+ HD box, XL tv with Sky Sports, M phone and 20mb Broadband for £74pm.

I've just accepted - 3 boxes - Tivo box, V+ HD box and a basic box, XL tv with Sports, M phone and 30mb Broadband for £85pm but £20 off for first 6 months, so average over 12 months is the same as I'm paying now :T :j

Just an update from the above.....

My new boxes etc were due to be installed today, I have taken the day off work, spent an hour re-arranging furniture etc in preparation, waited in all day. It got to 4:30pm so I decided to give VM a call to check they were still coming. Lady at VM "Their's nothing on the system about an installation, it say's here you have a disconnection notice". I proceed to tell her I accepted an offer from retention's to which she replies "Oh yeah, it say's your disconnection has been cancelled because you accepted a new deal, I'll put you through to retention's".

I'm left on hold for 5 minutes, then the same woman comes back on the line "I'll have to put a note for retention's to call you back as it was the outbound team that gave you the deal"....... 2 hour's later and still no call. And here's me thinking they wanted to keep my custom? Not a happy customer at all.:mad::mad:

As I have said numerous times before, if anyone gets any verbal agreement from any customer services team (VM, Sky, BT, S. Electric, Centrica, etc.), always send an email to the CEO to confirm the conversation.

I have used the above many times to my benefit. If customer services fail to honour the agreement, you can they escalate to the CEO and get compensation.

i rang sky to cancel the sky sports package. chap who answered was a bit patronising telling me "if sky did offers with everyone we will be out of business"...so i asked to therefore proceed and cancel my sky sports.
after he wanted to reconfirm my account details (not sure why a 2nd time) he said "okay then lets see what we can do for you!" ..managed to get 25% sky sports for 3mths. Not much had been hoping to get 1/2 price sports, guess depends how generous the call centre worker is.
  • Have been with sky for about 8 years and have had a few discounts in the last few years, after last years expired, I called and received a discount on line rental for the next 12 months so it is £3 instead of £14. We have on ongoing £5 discount from when sky changed their packaging to just entertainment/extra. Called up just to see what was on offer and the nice operator said there wasn't anything available and to call back in a month or two. When he asked me if there was anything else at the end of the call, I asked him to double check and he came back with 25% off sports for 3 months; it's not much in the scheme of things but all savings add up...was tempted to go through and cancel, but the virgin offer in my area doesn't seem like much of a bargaining tool at present
  • Hi I would appreciate people's advice on what I could possibly expect. My mum has just sky TV- with a reconditioned sky + box . This had been discounted by 25% for a year which expired a couple of weeks ago. Now she pays £22 per month for entertainment extra.

As she has just bought a tablet i thought about getting her internet as well. She is currently with BT for her phone line on BT basic at £14.40 per quarter.

Obviously going through different providers for each component would be more expensive. Any idea on what the cheapest i should try to haggle with Sky with for phone, internet and TV. I note with the quidco for virgin and its deal which ended yesterday this worked out at around the £30 per month. However this was on the classic collection for which the TV channels are effectively freeview.

As such I appreciate Sky may cost slightly more for its TV which she would want to keep as it offers some asian channels included in the bundle. Should I settle for £35 per month or has anyone got a better deal for the weekend phone line, unlimited b/b and entertainment extra?

  • Was hoping someone could help me figure out a cheaper package other than Virgin.
My package is £72 thereabouts which is tv, phone and internet included but as I don't use my home phone a lot I was wondering about cheaper providers that may offer something that I can afford and with the things I need.

  • You may have seen earlier in the thread that I have been a long time deal getter with my Sky package but that this time I was offered no deal and was switched off at the start of January. Some of you guys had said that I would very likely receive an offer soon, anyway this appeared the other day and I rang up to get my 25% off the packages (excluding the HD charge) with new Sky+ installation - was still on plain old Sky before.

Anyway, I also wanted the HD pack to go with my shiny new TV. So having asked for the quotation I was told the standard £10.50? so I told him to leave it off and I'd think about it. When the deal was done I thought I'd ask again and because I was suddenly an existing customer it had dropped to £5 pm!

Thought I'd pass this on as it may be useful to someone, but of course these offers are changing all the time so don't count on it.

I currently have Sky entertainment extra, Sky + HD, phone line, unlimited broadband and anytime calls and pay just over £62.00 per month.

I am just out of a 12 month half price broadband offer so I called sky to cancel and after numerous questions the agent said all she could do was take off the anytime calls (which I hardly use anyway) and offer me broadband and line rental for £10 per month as there was already a discount on my account which I was unaware of. She did say that they would throw in a wireless connector so I could make use of the on demand which I am not at the mo, but I would like to watch movies as well but am not subscribed.

She said that when the entertainment extra came out they upgraded me but froze my tv package prices, this was news to me, unless I had a mailing about it and didn't read it properly. So with the changes I would have all of the above apart from anytime calls for £44.00 per month. Does this sound like a good deal or should I cancel and hold out for a better offer.

Not really sure what to do as there are some good cashback deals on at the moment but would like to keep my sky channels as well and don't think I can get them all apart from with Sky. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
