I put my notice in around 4 weeks ago now, they offered me nothing at the time either, you will get letters saying sorry to see you go, got an email this morning (think I'm about 2/3 days before I get cut off) to say give us a call as we may have an offer that would suit you.
I'd sit tight if I were you, and run it right till the end
Thanks for the advice think ill sit on it for a while.0 -
Just got off the phone to VM as my contact expires in 3 weeks so i went down the haggling route to get a cheaper deal - came off the phone 5 minutes later with nothing!!
I must admit that i'm happy with VM have had no issues, but on seeing the brillaint deals being thrown around with Sky makes me wonder whats best. I cam away from Sky 2 years ago as the package i had was poor.
Even a free TiVo box or a small reduction on my bill would be a result, the chap i spoke to went through my package in detail but when i said about leaving he didn't seem concerned and was going to put me through to cancellations department, why are these companies so different?
Any advise????0 -

This is what was said in the email, unsure if its the normal Sky number though?

Hi Guys
Just a response from my previous post a few weeks ago about cancelling Sky.
Had an email today to say I'm in my final stages of cancelling, here is what will happen, call us as we may have some deals for you, etc etc...
I give them a call and explained why I was cancelling, told him the 'truth' that it was way too expensive and that I couldn't afford it anymore, nothing wrong with the service, simply a money factor.
Previously I had Sky Entertainment Extra, MUTV and HD package. The gentleman that was on the phone was chatty so we had a bit of a chat about work etc, he put me on hold and came back with the full package, movies, sports, etc etc all for 50% discount for 12 months! Glad to say I couldn't be happier with the offer he gave me, just goes to show, a bit of banter might go a long way in getting the discount that you want!
Hope this helps with anyone who are looking to cancel.
Ivo.
I've seen a number of posts like these on this thread - please can you post some more information?
Do you have multiroom? What was the monthly fee you were paying in total? What will the new monthly fee be? Are you still getting MUTV? Do you have any other services or just telly?
The reason I ask is because I want to see if you really are getting a 50% discount, or if the HD & MUTV is not included in that discount, which would mean it is NOT a 50% discount (though still possibly a good deal).0 -

called the number and it was for "new" customers guy told me to call back when the cancellation had gone through and they would be able to give an offfer. Called the normal customer service number explained had a missed call and wanted to check if they were any offers, put through to new customer department again and offered 50% off for 6 months no chance of 12 months on our account though but 50% off is a good place to be any time. 50% off includes movies and sport but actual discount will stay on the account even if we downgrade the package0 -

Neil - Cancel (if you haven't already). You have no power until your contract expires either, wait 3 weeks before you call again. They will give you a disconnection date etc. I put a reminder on my mobile, PC and calender to phone them back a few day's before they were due to disconnect me just incase as I didn't really want to leave! Anyway, only 4 day's after my initial phone call when I cancelled VM retention's team called me back............
I was getting - In 1 room - V+ HD box, XL tv with Sky Sports, M phone and 20mb Broadband for £74pm.
My first call I was offered - 2 boxes - Tivo box, V+ HD box, XL tv with Sports, M phone and 30mb Broadband for £87.
Yesterday I accepted from retention's - 3 boxes - Tivo box, V+ HD box and a basic box, XL tv with Sports, M phone and 30mb Broadband for £85pm but £20 off for first 6 months, so average over 12 months is the same as I'm paying now. :T
Edited to add - That price is including the impending price increase.0 -
Hi everyone.
Our SKy is currently in hubbys name and out of contract.
My Oh is usless on the phone so I would really like to change it over to my name.
Did an online chat with someone from SKY and they virtually advised me to get the OH to cancel SKY and then re-join in my name.
I REALLY like this idea because we are very broke at the moment and I either need to haggle a much lower bill or maybe get a new customer deal/cash back etc.
What I am worried about is cancelling SKY in the OH's name and then not being allowed to re-join so quickly in my name at the same address.?
Has anyone ever done this and had any problems?.
I could happily live without SKY full stop but if hubby lost his SKY sports even for a day my head would be on the chopping block .
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks0 -

Both of us can change discuss the account with them / add remove channels etc, it was just in my name to start with. Added the wife, I had to call and say I wanted her added, and they set her up with her own security question / password.
The DD is from our joint account, so perhaps that might make a difference. This was all done a good 5 or 6 years ago. So I suppose it could well have changed now.0
