Any advice or suggestions welcome please. I'm am existing Sky+ customer. Box is getting old and creaky and OH would like HD.
Aerial co cowboy - I'm in a flat with a communal system/dish- disconnected my BT line so that needs sorting (I think he cut it when he moved the socket).
I can't ring to cancel Sky if I would like an upgrade....I would need an aerial installer given the phone line issue too.
Best I've ever got out of Sky is 6 months with 25% off and 3 months free ESPN! We mostly watch the movies and sports channels so no leeway there.
Any ideas to get them in the Xmas spirit and which is the best number and time of day to call them on please?0 -
Hey all, rang sky today as was free and wanted to see what would happen when i actually went through to cancellations:..
Went through to cancellations and the guy came up with the following:
1) sky + hd box (as ive got a normal old non plus box)
2) Free Installation
3) 20% of package for 9 months
4) £5 for hd pack (normal 10.25)
Now from the above the only good thing is the 20% of for 9 months deal as when i rang a month ago and just talked to the normal sales team as i got a new hd tv the lady offered me numbers 1, 2 and 3 above anyway so didnt really get a new deal from the cancellations
mentioned ive got virgin bb and will need to think and possibly continue with cancellation on monday after talking with family
I also mentioned movies and he said for that i can give u everything above plus movies for £21.00 per month for 6 months then just cancel movies and it will go back to £26.00 plus an extra £5.00 if you want hd
But this deal would tie me in for 12 months, meaning i need to keep some type of subscription for 12 months
Then i mentioned the 2 tb box and he said £149, i said hell no mate when i rang before the lady said £49 adn it would always be £49 after checking and apologising he said it is 49 but installation is 60 so £109 total and the computer would not let him reduce installaton even thought it should be the same as installation the other box and thats free :T:rotfl::rotfl:
How do these deals look people?
ok people slight update on this since my post above.,
Basically rang sky again today to take them up on the above offer, but the new cancellation team agent gave me a completly different and tbh crap offer. He said that each time you ring the offers change as they work on a phone by point or whatever system.
Also he said you can ring back tomorrow and you may get a better deal to which i said theres no point i just want to ring and either give notice to cancel or see if you can better or match a virgin deal ive been given (i havent been given anything) but i do have their bb
He also said i can only give 1 offer on you account and that was the reduced hd pack, £5 yeh rite mate thats an insult especially as the other agent before gave a much better deal and more than 1 offer. And that everytime you ring the offers change so you can call back tomorrow and you might get a much better offer (better for me, not for sky. or even it might be vice versa)
I probably going to ring tomorrow to either finally see what they can do and try and get something sorted for xmas or just give 31 days and see what happens
Alternatively im thinking about sending a email to mr darroch explaining what hapened with both agents and the main reason i could not take the 1st agents offer was we had to fly abroad due to a family emergency (true story)
any other thoughts people0 -
Final contribution from me for a while.....
Have now swapped over to Virgin, Full package
+ Extra HD box upstair.s + Fibre Optic + Phone
Box's + installation for free. Half price for 6 months
Never got anything resembling a decent offer from Sky to stay which after 20yrs+ I think was pretty crap really
I will see out the contract knowing I have made a big saving over the next year or so and will see what SKY offer over the next 18 months to tempt me back!0 -

If you live in a cabled area you are clearly more likely to have offers chucked at you than of you live in the middle of nowhere where Sky is the only show in town.0 -
called up vm to cancel today as i had not checked my bills for a while and found out they had upped my price buy £2 without telling me.
i was on m+ tv
l 10mb broadband
and weekend phone
for £20 changed to £22 without notice + £13.90 line rental
thay said that in feb it would go up to £40 odd including line rental
and offered
m+ tv
30mb broadband
weekend phone
and tivo and super hub
£36.99 a month after feb price rise
12 month contract
as its cheaper and i like the look of the tivo went for it.
what do you all think any good or did i jump to early?0 -
Having been Sky-less for 2 months and had the 50% offer through the post thought Id try & negotiate a new deal.
What I got was full package no mention of HD subscription & new HD box cost £27.75 so similar to what I was paying for entertainment package with a clapped out box.
Moral of story be prepared to cancel. You get free-view on your current dish without subscription and you will probably be contacted by mail with a enhanced offer. :j0 -
I have a TV, Broadband and phone package fom Sky.
I called them to discuss the line rental increase, told them wasn't happy with paying more for something I don't use (the phone line is necessary for the TV and BB services) and that as I can get mobile internet for about £10/month I wanted to cancel.
They immediately offered me a rolling deal with line rental of £3.00, a saving of £11.50
My monthly package is now down to £32.50/month for TV (Entertainment+ package, no sport or movies), Phone (free evening/weekend calls) and unlimited Broadband.
I'm happy with that as the channels we mainly watch are not on freeview and cable is not available.0 -
Basically told them I was (genuinely) thinking of leaving Sky & just have freeview & go on to O2 package(as I get a deal through my mobile). I have TV, Broadband & phone line through sky.
Girl was really helpful and went through my whole bill; 1st thing they done was advise me they would send out a wireless connector so I can watch on demand free of charge (usually £21.95) because I had all 3 items with SKY.
2nd Was offer me a discount of £12 on broadband & phone for the next 9 months down to £10 per month(saving £108) with no need to extend or take out any new contracts(only stipulation is I must keep all 3 items) so worth a try for people paying the full £22 for unlimited sky & broadband
3rd thing I done was cancel HD pack as I rarely use it(no longer have sky sports) and the free HD channels are the only ones I watch anyway.0 -
I pay over £110 per month for everything sky just about offers - phone, internet, movies, sport etc etc. Rang them yesterday to ask if they would would offer a discount to a loyal customer (been with them since 1994) because I thought i was paying a lot of money to them. The best they offered was 10% off sports/movies (saving £5.50 per month) OR 25% off the £14.50 line rental.
Gobsmacked that they wouldnt budge from either of those offers so told them i wanted to cancel. Still wouldnt budge so they must be fine with losing nearly £1400 a year.
Cancel it is. They were no help at all.

Similar circumstances to me it appears the longer you have been with SKY and the more you pay each month the less bothered they are about leaving
I've had VIrgin a few weeks now everything free to switch over + another new HD box for upstairs
1/2 price for 6 months + Fibre Optic BB
Very Happy!0
