I have bought sky+ boxes for £0.99 on ebay. Car boot sales always have them.0

Just tried to haggle down sky, didnt get to far. then i said i would cancel and my partner would possibly sign up (probably a mistake in hindsight) they told me as they have got that recorded that she would not be able to sign up for an account.
Is that correct? I have got a 50% off voucher for a new customer and wanted to sign up that way. May have to cancel and hold out for a couple of months otherwise!!0 -
yeah getting that impression. i am gonna get you view and sky boost in January so will be happily cancelling sky unless they can do better.0

You do realise you are partly to blame for this. You should be upgrading to the newer tech each time its time for you to upgrade. It wont cost you a penny and to be honest it would save you some pennies if you haggled your way through, which is what moneysaving is about.
The fact that you couldnt be !!!!+d to go through with an upgrade and just left things like it is, is why you are in this predicament.
If you havent heard already, loyalty to sky doesnt mean anything.
You may get your free bos seeing as though you emailed them and have been commited to them for so long. But dont be surprised if they dont comply.
Also, always mention the competition when on a phone call like Virgin Money or BT!!
As a "newbie" I understand that more "experienced" forum members will have a better understanding of how multi national companies work (with regards to customer service & Loyalty etc).
I posted so as to enable the community to be aware of the "problems" I am encountering with Sky and, perhaps, to receive some advice.
I am, naturally, a believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (this may not be the best attitude in keeping up with technology - but if I'm happy with it - where's the problem....??
To receive a reply stating..
"The fact that you couldnt be !!!!+d to go through with an upgrade and just left things like it is, is why you are in this predicament."
This is actually quite insulting and offensive!! (as this is my first post, there is a WARNING note at the top of it saying treat me gently!
It doesn't suprise me, though, that somebody can post 468 times (with this attitude to "newbies") and only be thanked 191 times (I don't know you, or your history, but suspect that the majority of your posts are as helpful (not) as this one!)
Far more helpful, and appropriate, advice is given by KTF (in the following post) who says to "Call them up again and give your 30 days notice to cancel.
Then wait for the phone call and dont be surprised if they suddenly do something about the cost of the STB."
I am waiting for their reply (it should be within 24 hours [???] ) and will consider where I go after that.
Regardless of Sky's past history - I am hoping they see sense and try to keep a longstanding customer happy!!0 -
I didnt even think anyone had anything other than a minimum of Sky+, they've been milking you for years. To put what you've been paying into perspective we've lived her for 6 years and always had Sky+.
Fully cancel and get a minimum of 50% off for 12 months.
Also we rejoined Sky this week, over the phone they paired a card to a box that we bought second hand and then reactivated the Sky+ - we've got Sky free for 4 months after using the blue card for freeview+ for a while0 -
I think everyone needs to understand that Sky, like, any other business will try to keep your subscription rate its highest level. No company is going to show their hand immediately & give you the best deal available, even if you have been with them for a number of years.
After reading the many postings here, I believe that the only message you can take is: you must use the cancellation route. Please don't take umbrage at the offer made by the Sky adviser & get involved in an argument. I'm sure they're giving you the best offer they, possibly, can. Just thank the representative for the offer & go through with the cancellation. After, all they don't make the rules & are purely following their instructions.
To demonstrate this, I cancelled the TV part of my subscription(keeping phone & broadband) on 13 December. This Thursday I received a telephone call, from a nice representative, offering all channels at a discounted rate of 50% for 12 months - that's just £26 per month & no contract. This, I thought, was too good to turn down & I have accepted.
So, to sum up, the waiting game is the way forward. Even if you do not receive an offer, what's the worst that can happen: your Sky subscription lapses. I don't think this the end of the world(or was that yesterday!):beer:0 -
Well I didn't go for a year with albanian football but one month and im glad I did. Exactly 1 month after my Sky lapsed I got a 75% offer through the post. Heres a little trick dont just ring them up wait for them to ring you up and then say youve got a month with say albanian football and youre waiting for it to lapse before you go ahead. They then offered 30 GBP credit off first bills if I signed up now. Wow however didnt notice that day I got a 4 month free trial that everyone talks about on here but still 75% isnt bad. Is it standard for sky to offer 75% after 1 month would like to see if anyone else has got same.0

Great work! Its good to hear that you took an active approach to this and found another little neat way of getting what you want! :T0 -
Cancelled on 20th so waiting for their call but also looking at other options.0

We have a suspect (3 year old) sky plus box - it keeps on freezing and then horizontal lines appear - before it clears itself for a few hours/days
I emailed "accessible customer service" (I am disabled / unable to speak) - to see what they could do...
I have an email from accessible CS - from some months ago - offering a free upgrade to an HD box (we don't have an HD TV - But the extra functions of the HD box are a benefit) - at the time - I didn't progress this but now, the box appears to be getting worse - so I tried again
Not only will sky not provide an HD ready box for free - but they tried to charge me £60 for a refurbished Plus box - reduced to £15 when I complained... which I will not pay as a matter of principle (why should I pay a single penny for a piece of equipment that should last for more than 3 years ?)
Is this any way to treat a customer who has been with them for 6 + years ??
Any suggestions ?
Surely - I can use the S.O.G act to get this sorted for free ?
An inherent fault obviously has caused this problem - and the S.O.G act covers up to 10years.... ?0
