  • BT Basic. This is a non starter as you do have to qualify which in fact I do. HOWEVER.... they give you line rental for £4.95 per month, do NOT include 4.50 of calls and then charge you the full whack for BB @ 17.80 and you cannot have any package of weekend calls etc. So in fact they give you nothing.
  • Hi Craig, Try the Post Office as they seem to have the best deal. I also tried Virgin as an existing customer (have their TV only) and wanted to increase to have phone and BB. The package they are offering is 44.99 which is far more than if you are NOT a customer with various bundles of 32.59/40.99/41.99!
  • I was basically meaning i'd be keeping my phone and BB with Sky, but disconnecting the tv. Was just wondering if they send out offers for the tv only or if its just entire package
  • Phoned SKY today was paying £55 a month for HD TV no sports or movies plus phone and broadband.

Asked to cancel to give freeview a go, didn't ask or mention a discount, lady then said if you cancel HD she could do my current package for £33.42 a month for 9 months a pretty decent saving so i gladly accepted.

Think it must be 50% off so really pleased.

Sounds to me more like a 25% discount because you are actually losing a service (HD) which costs £10 odd a month. Therefore you are actually only getting a discount of around £12 a month on your package. OK it's better than nothing and as long as you are happy that's fine.

The only thing you have right is the £4.95 PM
  • Hi - a sorry tale to tell you all...
I have been with Sky for over 15 years (£42 per month = £7500 over 15 years) with an "original" Grundig Digibox.
I had a local engineer replace my dish during the summer - he also fitted a multi outlet LNB, laying twin cables to the sky box (even though it only needed the one....).

The Sky box has now died (just before Christmas!).

So I chatted online to a Sky Rep - If I take out Sky+ HD then I get a free box (it will cost £10.25 per month extra though!) - I don't have HD TV so, I don't need Sky+ HD !

oh dear - well, you can have a Sky+ box (free upgrade) BUT you will have to pay £60 for an engineer to install it.
I don't need an engineer - the cables are already in place.
Hmmmmm - sorry can't help you! you will need to telephone the sales team and discuss it.

    So I did!

I cannot get a free Sky+ box as I don't have a Sky+ account! and therefore an engineer will have to attend (£60)
If I bought a cheap box, they could register it as my sky+ box and then send me a free upgrade though.......

I told them I have borrowed a friends Sky+HD box but cannot watch my movie channels as the card isn't registered to the box.
Aha! I can set that box up for you!
On no, sorry, it is an HD box - that would mean that when you wanted to upgrade to HD the system would say you already had an HD box and charge you £240 for a new one!!!!

Why can't you set it up as Sky+ only.......?
not an option - can't do that - sorry!

Well, I cannot afford the £60 for an engineer to install a free box using the existing wiring.

I have told them that after Christmas I will need to reassess our finances to see if we can afford the £60 - if we can't, then it will be bye bye to Sky!
I also said it was a shame we would not be able to watch the movies over christmas (the movies we pay to be able to watch!) - he said that we could take the movie option off our subscription if we wanted to!!!

    Very helpful!!!

I have sent an email to Sky to complain about this matter - I will let you all know how they propose to treat a 15+ year customer!

    Merry Christmas!!:(

You do realise you are partly to blame for this. You should be upgrading to the newer tech each time its time for you to upgrade. It wont cost you a penny and to be honest it would save you some pennies if you haggled your way through, which is what moneysaving is about.

The fact that you couldnt be !!!!+d to go through with an upgrade and just left things like it is, is why you are in this predicament.

If you havent heard already, loyalty to sky doesnt mean anything.

You may get your free bos seeing as though you emailed them and have been commited to them for so long. But dont be surprised if they dont comply.

Also, always mention the competition when on a phone call like Virgin Money or BT!!

Call them up again and give your 30 days notice to cancel.

Then wait for the phone call and dont be surprised if they suddenly do something about the cost of the STB.

Just tried to haggle down sky, didnt get to far. then i said i would cancel and my partner would possibly sign up (probably a mistake in hindsight) they told me as they have got that recorded that she would not be able to sign up for an account.

Is that correct? I have got a 50% off voucher for a new customer and wanted to sign up that way. May have to cancel and hold out for a couple of months otherwise!!
