Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Cancelled Sky in August and kept getting various come back offers including £50 credit and half price Sky for a year, none of which appealed. Leaflet came through today, free Sky full package for 4 months, no contract. Yes please
. Sky back on now, just in time for Christmas. If you can do without Sky, best cancel and wait for an offer that suits you. Ex customers get better deals than existing ones in my opinion.

Just called them through the "leaving Sky" option. Simply said I was calling either to get a discount on my current package, or to give my 30 days notice to leave. Lady on the line asked me to hold for a minute, then came back with the offer of 25% off for six months, which I accepted.
Didn't have to mention anything about switching to another provider, just made sure she knew it was either a discount, or losing me as a customer.0 -

Ditto, left in August and they just rang with the same offer! Go on then, brilliant for Xmas and 4 months footy, but it won't be staying after that.
No HD pack mind you, but for free beggars can't be choosers I guess.0 -
I got my sky tv disconnected at the start of November. I kept the sky phone and broadband though and yesterday I got a postcard offering me 75% off sky tv, movies and sports package for a full year so for the full tv package it will cost me £13.88 per month....I phoned up straight away and reconnectedShazzaGray

Unlikely - though not impossible !!
The best that I could get was a free upgrade, from a standard to HD Ready box - no savings possible
If I went for the replacement HD Ready box - what can it do that the standard box was unable to do ?
I do not need or want an HD box - but that is what they appear to offer nowadays..0 -

Not unlikely at all, I had completely free tv, movies and sport for 6 months with no tie in. The offers built up over a few months after ai disconnected.

the thing with Sky is you have to wait out the disconnection and actually go through with it to get the big offers.
This is where my cancellation will kick in in 12 months time and my two month upgrade on Virgin will happen - hopefully they will then offer up the 75%

Has anyone on VM Mates Rates managed to get retentions to drop/reduce the price increase please?
Many thanks

I phoned Sky and cancelled my tv package (i kept my phone and broadband with them), it was switched off at start of November. Yesterday had a card through the post offering me full TV package (with sports + movies) free for 4 months. No contract tie in. Will give my 31 days notice middle of March, see what else they can offer. At the end of the day, I now know i can live without it no probs0

I got the same offer. No contract, either, as I'm using the same box. The guy did offer a brand new box for free if I was prepared to tie in for 12 months, but as I've got a TB box anyway I didn't see the point.
I've also moved since I cancelled, so they sent an engineer to put a dish up for free.
Full TV, Movies and Sport for £14 a month. Only downside is that the HD pack isn't discounted, so I'm paying £24. Even so, it's still a good deal for 12 months when the best Virgin could offer was £95 for TV, Broadband and Phone Line. I can add a phone line and (admittedly much slower) broadband with Sky for an extra £20. Less than half price to Virgin.
I like you, Branson, but I prefer money. Show me your filthy bosom, Murdoch, I'm coming to suckle.0
