  • Followed your haggle tips and called sky, threatened to leave and ended up with 20 pounds per month reduction in cost, brand new free wireless router thrown in with no change to my package!!!!
    Happy days!
Thanks martin, your a gem. :rotfl:
  • I was with sky for over 19 years. Recently my 25% off expired so I called to see what deal they could give me. I had the whole package, sports, HD, broadband etc so my monthly bill was pretty hefty. They let me leave so obviously didn't value my custom. Virgin didn't do much better. They offered me similar deal I was on with sky but for £10 more, and this without skysports 3 and 4 being in HD. Also they offer ESPN for 18 months. Their deal with premiership comes to an end this season so won't be showing top flight football next season.

I cancelled my Sky package 6 months ago and moved to Virgin. After Virgin announced their second price increase in as many months last month, I cancelled that and decided to go back to Sky.

After I'd placed my order with Sky (but before it had been installed), I received an email from Sky: 75% off Sky TV for 12 months if I come back to Sky before 20th Dec.

Obviously I called them, cancelled the order which I'd already placed, and took out a new subscription with this offer. It works out at around £45 a month for Full TV, Sports and Movies, Line Rental, Talk Weekends, Broadband Unlimited.

Plus, as I'm using my old box, there's no contract period.

Seems like there are some pretty good offers out there over the Xmas period.

There was no M&S voucher, but they did give me a £50 credit onto my bill.
  • After hearing about the half price sky offer, I contacted Virgin who I have been with for ten years, they didn't seem to be interested in getting me a better deal to stay with them, giving me the impression that they're not bothered that I'm thinking of leaving, as soon as I get the code for Sky, i'll be back on the phone to Virgin seen as they don't seem that bothered about me staying
  • :jive had a LOOONG ongoing battle(4mths)with sky paying them over £350 for phone i HAVENT been able to use,and affecting broadband etc,NOW developed a faulty sky+ box-THEY said would be callout fee 0f £65 as box out of warranty-I said im going to cancel then-behold! a guy in cancellation dept wangled callout fee DOWN to £15 ONLY! AND ASSURES ME THAT IF I SHOULD NEED A NEW BOX AN UPGRADE TO SKY+ HD WILL NOT BE CHARGED A MONTHLY (EXTRA)FEE!! good job i tried out martins haggling/wrangling tactics for once.:T
  • I had a letter through the door from Virgin offering me loads of deals to go with them so I phoned Sky and told them I don't want to leave but money is tight and Virgin are offering better value for money at the moment. In the end they offered me free line retail for 3 months and 3 months half price, 6 months half price Broadband, free multi room for 12 months, free HD for 6 months and movies for £1 a month for 3 months. Well happy :)
  • After receiving my letter from Virgin about the price hikes this coming February I contacted them. My bill was due to go from £40 a month to £45 a rise of 12.5%. I explained to the operator that I couldnt afford a rise of 12.5% and asked how much notice I needed to give to leave as BT had a better deal on at the moment. I was told my bill was only going up by £5 not 12.5%(????) , so I explained the maths behind my logic!! At this point I was immediately referred to the customer service team AKA customer retention team. I had the same conversation with a lovely lady whose math was obviously not her strong point either. She explained that the price rise was in line with inflation!!!:rotfl: Last time I checked inflation was not at 12.5% although it does feel like it!! I once again asked how much notice I needed to give to leave and my bill was immediately reduced to £34 now, to rise to £36 in February, with a new super hub thrown in, faster internet and delivery charge of £20 reduced to £0!!! So my new February bill will be 10% less than I was paying and 20% less than I would have been paying:j One extrememly happy customer now, if still a bit miffed that I had to threaten to leave for my custom to be valued. :(
Extra payment a week challenge: This week £20.27 Total so far £221.41
  • Ok, so I decided to genuinely cancel my subscription to Sky tv 6 months ago as I rarely used the tv.

    The package I had was:

    Sky Tv Entertainment extra: £20.50
    Sky Line rental: £12.25
    Sky Broadband Unlimited: £7.50

In an effort to keep my custom Sky offered this package:

    Sky Tv Entertainment extra: £20.50
    Sky Line rental: £FREE
    Sky Broadband Unlimited: £2.50

I decided to stay put as a £17.25 saving on the package meant i was now only paying £3.25 for the tv.

Now I find myself with the deal ending and after speaking to Sky the best they can offer me is:

    Sky Tv Entertainment extra: £22
    Sky Line rental: £7.25
    Sky Broadband Unlimited: £5.00

So thats an effective cost of £14.50 for the tv package. Again not viable for the amount I watch tv so I have cancelled the contract.

Now my Sky box will become a free Freesat box which will suit me just fine.
  • ........ How about offering "codes" at a time when we're home from work at night?

    Just sayin'.
  • I terminated my contract approx 3 weeks ago now and have received a 50% of the tv package through the post. However I want a Sky HD box they dont seem to be keen to offer me anything with regards to a new box. I have a old white box and want a new sleak black box. I think I will have to wait see if Im offered a new box in time anyone had a similair dilema.
