Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I posted the message below on the 11th nov. I had two sets of text messages from sky asking about my experience and one email survey. Today was my first call which came on my mobile from 08009159081. I may have missed calls on the landline as I rarely answer it. They caught me in a good mood so I spoke with them. Very nice chap called bob listened to my concerns, said he appreciated why I was not happy with their offer and within 20 mins had offered me a free hd box to be sent in 5 days and a 50% discount on my tv package for 12 months, so 27.75 per month, plus offered me again the £5 hd. That is good enough for me, and I look forward to reporting back when it is all installed etc.
I really meant to cancel so a good catch there from sky.
Incidentally, he did note I'd never had a discount before on the tv since sign up, and had a full payment history, don't know if that meant anything to the deals I was offered.
Well done mate you have done better than I have!
I have already cancelled and due to be 'cut off' next Monday 3/12. I have had no concrete offers to stay apart from a discount on broadband and phoneline if I decide to stay and swap over all my services to SKY
Like you I have never had even the smallest of discounts from SKY in my 20 years of paying full price for the Full SKY package
If no call before Friday then Virgin getting a new customer as their current offers all expire on that day!

Hi
Trouble is i dont want Sky to expire (or my husband doesnt), as have so much to still watch in what we have recorded.
If they can just say that installation also free, then i am back with them.0 -

I did ask Sky, which is why i was asking here!
As per my earlier post they cannot tell me as my account is cancelled.0 -
All I can suggest is that you call them again as your account should not be 'cancelled' until the actual cancellation date - I assume you can still log in to your account on sky.com, see all the details, etc. as you only gave your 30 day notice 2 weeks ago.
Even if someone posts on here to say installation is free/not free based on their past experience, as each offer is customer specific you will only get the right answer from Sky themselves.
If their system cannot currently tell you what the charge will be then its going to be difficult for them to place the order if they cannot confirm the total cost to you so this is down to them to resolve.0 -
All my details have also been cleared from my online account, which is very wrong considering it does not actually cancel until another 11 days.
They said they will ring back so will await that, although am concerned he couldnt tell me about the installation costs.
Thanks for your help0 -
Hi, I had a similar thing with my offer - see above, I had to accept the 50% before he could tell me how much the box was. I said 'well what if I don't like the price and don't want to proceed' and he said it could all be cancelled down again and I would continue to have my account end on the 11th dec. obviously I accepted so don't know if this was a true and clear statement of fact......0

Wow, had my first ever phone call from Sky today! The lady I spoke to said I had been a customer for 13+ years, that's as far back as she could see. I was asked why I was no longer a Sky customer and what they could do to get me back. I said that as a long standing customer I was never offered any good deals and was fed up seeing new customers getting all the discounts and freebies. I was offered 50% off for 12 months, free HD box again, but I said I had already been offered the same deal over the last 8 months since I had left and wanted better, 75% off and/or free HD or I wasn't interested. She couldn't offer me this so I said thanks for the call and goodbye. I wonder what I'll be offered next, I dont miss Sky so am really not bothered, they need me more than I need them!0

Is that really true? Does the PVR functionality come back (i.e. record) ?To infinity and beyond!0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
