You realise that the multiroom 'deal' is only for 6 months. How long are you tied in for after that?

They didn't say I'd be tied in after that only if I took the 10% off deal then that would definately be a 12 month contract, so I assume if i took the multi-room & 10% then it'd be 12mnths??!

Spoke to Hubbie last night and he's said cancel the lot. so looks like we'll be saying bye bye to Sky for a while and going with Freeview as we can't get Virgin! :(

Another question though - If we go with Freeview, can we still use our sky box to record etc?

No, if you cancel sky you can still get the free to air channels (and HD ones if you have a sky HD box) but sky+ will not be available and any recordings you already have will not be accessible.

Is there not an option that you can pay around £10pm to have the record facility?

Having a look on google suggests this might be possible. Not sure why you would want it though as you can get a 'normal' subscription for about the same if you get a 50% off deal out of them.

That's the problem, they just ain't offering the 50% deal for my subscription :(

You can't use the sky+ box for Freesat either - u have to buy a freesat box right if u want to record etc?

I'm happy with just Freeview/Freesat (whatever the difference is), but obviously just want to check the best way possible to get as much as we can without having to buy any additional equipment! It's all a bit confusing for me, so really appreciate your help so far!!!

If you cancel your sky subscription then you can get 'freesat from sky' which is the free to air channels using your existing sky box.

    Details: http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/

If you want freesat (with or without the record function) then you need a freesat TV or freesat box.

    Details: http://www.freesat.co.uk/

They are separate services by different companies but (confusingly) have very similar names.

If you want to pay as little as possible, cancel your sky subscription and see how you get on with 'freesat from sky' before you buy a freesat box, etc.

The easiest option when you cancel Sky is to go "Freesat from Sky". This uses your existing dish, your existing box and your existing viewing card. You don't pay any bills to Sky. You get all the free channels.

You won't be able to record with your Sky+ box without paying a subscription (£10 per month, I think) to Sky.
You won't be able to pause, rewind, etc.
You won't be able to watch the programs you have recorded, but they will remain on your box and you can watch them if you ever go back to Sky (with a package that includes the channels that you have recorded from).
Alternatively you can buy a Freesat PVR which you would use instead of your Sky box on which you should be able to pause, rewind, record, etc.

Just had a "live chat" with a Sky representative and it looks like you have to pay a one off payment of £25 to use Freesat with Sky (bit cheeky in my eyes) and it is £10 p/mnth to use the record feature.

I would wait and see what happens when you are disconnected as I was under the impression it was free if you had completed a 12 month contract with them.
