Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Just had my 18 month deal with Virgin come to an end. I was on their lowest package across all 3 - phone, broadband and TV - and was paying £34.90 pm.
I knew I didn't have much to haggle on but was keen to upgrade the TV from M+ to L as OH is due to start maternity leave.
I went through to their cancellations and told the guy that I had called yesterday and was going to cancel as had an offer from SKY (made up this bit) but the nice lady on the phone said they would match that offer. But as I wasn't sure I could cancel my agreement with SKY I would call them to make sure and that I could. And I could, so that's why I'm calling today.
To be fair the guy knew his stuff as when I said I can get phone, broadband and TV with SKY Entertainment Extra for £28.40 he knew that they couldn't do that. He said that this offer would be for SKY Entertainment and not the Extra bit.
He said he could offer my current package for £28.40 but I said I was keen to upgrade the TV to L. He said he could do that for £34.90. I said I wasn't sure so he said he can upgrade my broadband to 60mb and include a superhub router thing. All of this was in a 12 month contract.
He also said I could get a free TiVO box and half price TiVO for 6 months but I wasn't too fussed about TiVO as I'd never use it.
I was quite pleased with what I got because I hadn't been with them long and was on the lowest package anyway. Although at the start he called me a loyal customer!0 -
Whats the best number to phone Sky on to try and thrash out a deal.

Half price deal was coming to and end in August rang loads of times and best I was offered was 25% off. So cancelled no phone call begging me to stay nothing.
Today about 3 weeks after sky being turned off got a flyer for 75% off and £50 off next bill. Also got free ESPN for 3 months. Well pleased as when I was trying to negotiate a deal for the TV I was offered free line rental for a year and £2.50 off the broadband.
Its well worth cancelling and hanging on for a few weeks I am paying less now than I was on previous deal.
Good Luck Everyone0 -

I get cut off from Sky in 3 days and still no offers in the post!
This morning I had a letter (after 9 months) offering me 75% off for 12 months if I take out HD package plus £50 in my account, that is amazing. Very tempting.0 -
^^ I've just received the above offer myself after ignoring the half price deals that came through every month, might give them a call in the morning and see if I can get a deal on a new box as mine has seen better days...0

Its worth a try they can only say no so you'e got nothing to lose.
I tried for free multi room they said no I thought I was pushing my luck a bit.
Good Luck0 -
Anyone know what Virgin are offering to current customers looking to upgrade? I am on XL TV, M Broadband (£31.50) and Talk Weekends (13.90) so paying £45.40 per month. We don't have Tivo or V+. Would be happy to get a free Tivo box and keep paying the same to be honest but it would be even better to knock a few quid off the bill. The Premiere collection seems to be closest to what we have but we don't need all the extras like an extra box as we only have 1 TV.0

I cancelled my contract with SKY in July and my package was switched off on 12 August. Got the come back to SKY letter today offering 75 % off for 12 months, free ESPN for 3 months and a £ 50 credit on my account. Needless to say I have signed back up :-)
Bill reduced by around £40 a month.0
