How can you be a customer but not contracted with them?

If you haven't had Sky for the last 12 months, you are classed as a new customer.

Its a bit strange...ive never been locked into a 12 month contract since then... ive changed packages since, but always had the option to cancel straight away

Once the first year is up, the initial contract ends and the customer can cancel at any time.

You still have a contract though. Its just a rolling 30 day one.

    Just been speaking to Sky.

12 years loyal service, I'm on the full tv package including sports and movies. Telephone with Sky, bill around £90 on average per month.

Wanted Sky Multi room added, depending on the price. After 30mins on the phone they could only offer 25% off for the TV package over the next year and the sky multi room installation for free. I kindly declined and have given my 1 months notice. Hopefully they will come back with a better deal..

My mum has the old sky package and dish and has been with Sky for around 10 years. She's wanting to upgrade the account to a Sky+ box. I recently joined sky as a new customer and receved the new box and installation for free.
She rang Sky yesterday asking if her account to be upgraded and she was quoted £109 for the box and installation! Has anyone on this message board upgraded their account to Sky+ and successfully haggled a free box and installation?

Also - since I am a new customer to sky (only been with them 2 months), how long is acceptable to take advantage of offers and how do I find out about them without ringing the numbers up?
As you are in contract, they are highly unlikely to offer you any discounts as you are in contract and cannot cancel without incurring the cost of the remainder of your contract, as for your mum, if she hasn't had a sky+HD box before, she should be able to get one free with free installation, depends on the offers showing on their system - I would suggest she calls to cancel and see what they offer - cancellations have better offers than the sales team

just rang virgin we have lead in deal from 18 months ago £44 a month with anytime calls 10 mg broadband and was offered 30mg same channels and phone for £35, told him i would think about it
has anybody got a good deal from virgin? i used to manage to get offers from sky but virgin seem a waste of time

all sorted now talk anytime, 30mg tivo m+ channels
for £39.40 no charge for tivo being fitted
12 month contract and £5 discount included in price
i am £6 a month better off with tivo and an extra 20mg
    very pleased
  • I spent a short while on the phone to Sky and managed to gain discounted line rental, free telephone line rental and discounted broadband. I have been a customer for many years and the guy was reasonable in what he offered, no hard sell or upgrading attempts.

3 of my work colleagues followed shortly after citing the fact that they were paying more than other people they worked with and they felt it was unfair. They were offered the same deal pretty sharpish.
  • What kind of discount deals is everyone getting? My 25% deal runs out tomorrow and was wondering what to aim for when I phone sky?
