Phoned Virgin yesterday and told them I'd got a better deal offered with Sky. They dropped my monthly package down £10 from £43 to £33 (M+ HD package TV L phone) and offered to upgrade my broadband up to 30mg for free with a free superhub. I expect I could have a got a better deal than that if I haggled more and threatened to leave but it was pretty effortless as I just asked for their best offer so I'm happy with that.0

I just got a good deal from BT. I'm nearly at the end of my original 18-month contract - two weeks away.
I noticed that I could get line rental from Primus at £9.19 per month with evening and weekend calls, and broadband from O2 at £12.50 per month, all of course depending on me switching from BT for both.
I called and asked for a MAC code. When asked why I wanted to leave BT, I told them about the above offers. They were able to offer me line rental at £129 for the year (I know that's the standard price, so not a great deal, but much better than £14.50 per month). Unlimited broadband could be offered at £13.25 per month; the standard price is £26, so that's a great saving.
I've had BT Vision Unlimited for the past year or so, which had actually come out of contract. I wasn't too worried about losing that if I changed to a different broadband provider, but as I wasn't changing, they also offered me a reduction on the price of that. £10 per month rather than £12.50.
My monthly payment has therefore been reduced to £23.25 with £129 up-front, so effectively £34 per month. A good reduction from the £56.50. I'm losing anytime calls (it's evening and weekend calls from now), but I can do the 18185 override provider thing for daytime calls which we don't make much.
I had to do some research, but after that, it was worth making the phone call! I've just saved myself about £270 over the next year. BT get my guaranteed business for another year, so the deal is good for both of us. I pay basic rate tax, so a saving of £270 is more or less equivalent to I think about a £421 pay rise. Good deal for a 15-minute phone call!0 -
BT's non-fibre broadband is really expensive to begin with though. With that discount it's OK but not amazing when you consider the line rental too.0

Hi,
I currently have sky but will be moving home soon so will be a new customer but getting a package in my wife's name. We want the entertainment extra, broadband unlimited and phone line with sky. I see they're currently doing free b'band for 6 months, £120 TCB and £100 M&S voucher for new customers. They certainly couldn't beat this when I handed my notice in but by any chance are there any new customer codes available which could make this even better or a way of getting a sky employee discount code?

Its a poor deal, just get an o2 sim card top it up £10 exvery quarter and unlimited is £6.99Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
Has anyone received cashback for Sky when using a discount code?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0
-
Nope you don't get cashback when using a discount code, it's in the terms and conditions (at least on TopCashBack anyway).
You should be eligible for any M&S voucher offer they have since it's not mentioned anywhere that it can't be used in conjunction with discount codes, just that it's for all new customers signing up to Sky+ HD. However, I haven't got mine yet and Sky say there's nothing about a voucher on my account. The situation is meant to be resolved by tomorrow so we'll see what they say.0 -
DragonQ and chanz4, thanks for your comments. I knew it was possible to do better by actually switching, but that would also involve more of my time; I'd have to set up a new modem, connect my boxes to it, set them up again, etc. I would have done that if there were further significant savings to be made, but I got the price down to a level that I considered it wasn't worth the hassle of switching. Also the only way to retain BT Vision is to use BT Broadband. So, on the whole, I'm happy.
chanz4, I think you already have to be an O2 member for two years before you get access to the deal you're talking about. I agree though that that deal seems to give the best value of all the broadband packages if you need unlimited bytes.0 -
Hi guys
I cancelled my Sport and Movies back in early June and want to reinstate the sports for the footie.
TCB offer £20 cashback + £5 online via Sky for subscribing but as I understand that will tie me in for another 12 months.
Would I be better off calling up and asking for any offers - I am on a 20% off for 12 months at the moment already and £2.50 p/m for HD (they called me) so paying less than £25 for Entertainment Plus & HD and would any offers over the phone tie me for another 12 months as well?
Cheers
