  • Hi, I am currently a Virgin customer very satisfied with his internet but very dissatisfied with his TV.

I would like to switch my TV provider to Sky and get the basic package (with HD on top). What would be the most cost-effective way to do this? Bluff to Virgin that I'm thinking of leaving altogether (I would be paying around £30/pm just for broadband, which is ridiculous, and I could tell them that)? Tell Sky Virgin have offered me a deal to keep me (free line rental for example)?

I have around 8 months remaining on an 18-month contract, so couldn't afford to buy out the rest of my XL internet package with Virgin but wouldn't mind paying £40 to cancel the TV, but of course if I can get away with doing so for free I will.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

I think the best thing is to proceed with the cancellation. That may bring further offers.

Thank you. Just phoned up and went via the 'Thinking of leaving us option'. After a lot of chit chat I got offered 25% off my TV package for the next 6 months and I'm not tied into a new contract either.:money:
  • I contacted sky last month as i'm paying just under £80 a month now my offers have endded
    Sky +
    HD
    Movies
    Sports (1 & 2)
    Broadband
    Phone.

When I rang up to cancel, they would only offer me £13 off a month for 6 months... after 2 years of being with them and pretty much taking everything but multi room, so I'm 1 week away from leaving sky completely and they still haven't called me, I'm getting pretty nervous since I can't get freeview /BT /Virgin so will be pretty screwed otherwise.
Any advise on my next haggling step?

You will still be able to get Freesat from Sky programmes thru the dish altho' no recording facilities:) This will give you all the main terrestrial channels.Biggest problem will be getting your phone/internet switched to another provider quickly.

Hi guys, just wanted to pass on that i phoned sky this morning to see if i could lower my bill in some way.i said i was looking to get rid of my tv package maybe.they put me through to cancellations. i did some homework before i phoned on virgin media for a comparison. i am in contract with the phone and broadband til next year anyway but my tv isn't anymore. i had a look at virgin to see what i could get just tv on its own. if i got rid of just my sky tv alone, it would actually save me 425£ a year. i told them this and even said with virgin supplying my tv i would save 120£ still with them. Sky have now offered me a full years free line rental at 12.25£ a month. I guess it depends who you talk too reading some of these posts but i did the old "we don't want to leave but we need to save money and i am prepared to leave" trick. Felt i should share this as this may be of help to some people.
  • Firstly "THANX" :money: to all you fellow forum advisors as after receiving my price rise letter from VM and getting a fairish quote from Sky I decided to cancel my VM. I was already out of contract and the customer service person did try to offer a bit of a deal but Not enough to get my interest, hence.......I cancelled. Several missed calls later from VM they eventually caught me in and offered me,

    Before. After
    TV. XL. XL
    V+. TiVo
    Old V Box. V+
BB. 10 meg & orig modem. 30 meg & super hub
    Phone. Weekends. Weekends

    Per month. £58.50. £47.50

    12 month contract

I know I have seen what maybe better deals but I am pleased to have saved over £130 a year and upgraded my package and equipment.

    Happy Days. :j:j:j

Doesn't work for those who cannot speak on the phone
Sky Accessible Customer Services cannot offer any discounts or offers !!
This must be tantamount to discrimination ....

How do you communicate with them on the phone then?

Rang back to confirm which date our services go off, offered absolutely nothing even though I explained we have a faulty multiroom box that we can't watch. Services go off on the 9th and after 13years I am looking forward to saving 62.75 a month!

Ditto, am also liking the saving now! I rang Virgin to check prices before mine switched off yesterday and they offered nothing, they even told me I hadn't been interested in their deal - so tv off and actually I'm not that bothered! Have kept broadband/phone for now though. May still go to Sky, undecided. Weird though, I still have the box but can't get all the free channels on it, I can get some but not as many as I should get with Freeview so I need to fiddle around with the tv as I should get more channels on there.
