  • I just called and got told that they could take some packages off me like Multi-room, HD, Sports or films.
Then he said he will send my code for moving Broadband and I can call back then to cancel. :(

Tried to reduce my costs and got offered 20% off for 6 months, went to disconnections and they could not / would not beat it though I baulked at saying well cancel me then.

Dropped heavy hints about switching to Free view HD.

Still same package and now despite VAT going up I'm paying £ 8.95 per month less and keeping same package - a useful £53 off over 6 months.
Perhaps need to re-evaluate whether we really do need sports package ;)

I have to say thanks for the tip - after all who wants to pay sky more than they have to?
  • just rang sky to 'discuss' the cancellation process. said i had been offered a really good offer with another provider, but i was happy with sky...just not the price. i have the full works and was costing me £61 a month. i asked the sky rep if she could do anything on the price as i would like to stay, and straight away she offered me 25% off my monthly bill for the next year. i was more then happy and managed to save my self a fair bit!

its deffiently worth just a ask, and see what they can do !

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I've only got basic package with a few packs and a basic box, no broadband, etc. so they didn't offer me any money off but they've given me a Sky+HD box fitted for free and no extra to pay per month - excellent, just right for our new LED HD TV!
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat :D
  • Phoned Sky this morning to cut the cost, as both me and my husband have been made redundant - guess what - they can't do anything to help. I did the bit about cancelling and they said OK then you will need to pay a cancellation fee!!!! Thanks for nothing Sky.............

I tried to get a reduction from my HD , multi room, sports package. My HD box was bought privately and on the way out.

Nice guy who said there were no deals at the moment and could not reduce the price. He did offer an engineers visit (£65) to assess the box and a repair or replace as necessary. I kept talking and he gave me the visit free. Not a great deal but if I get a new box free I will be happy. Are they new or reconditioned and will I get a guarantee ?

Be careful they told me that same last year that i could have a 'Free' engineer - it took me 3 months to get it taken off my bill.....
  • Ok, so I rang sky at around 4:00, spoke to a nice guy and told him that I was a public sector worker who could be facing redundancy, but unfortunately no deal could be done. I told him that I was looking at other suppliers, and he then put me on hold. After 10 minutes I decided to hang up.

I then rang up again, and got through to the scotland base, and gave the same story. She was very nice, and I was offered 25% off TV for 12 months, but no deal could be done on broadband or phone. :) Of course, I accepted it, saving me over £130 for the year :T

She then asked me how I was finding the new sky anytime +, but I do not have it because I have a thomson box which is not yet compatible. So she transfered me to the technical department, and I have now be offered a new amstrad box to replace the current one, saving me an extra £200!!! :rotfl: :j

Just to add - The lady went through a list of all deals, not just the ones that applied for me, and told me that if I rung last week, I would have got the 50% for 6 months... but it still works the same.

We have been with Sky for 6 years - we started with an old pre-plus Box and when the box went up the creek, 3 years ago - we paid £75 for a plus box - now it looks as if our plus box is dying (it keeps on losing channels and patterns appear on the screen) - I do not intend to pay another £75 for another box
We don't need (or want) HD - so what are our options ?
  • Hi i have just phoned sky said i wanted to leave due to high cost. Got a 50% reduction for 12 mths. I am on the top monthly payment

hi there what i would do is ring sky up get through to cancellations and just say look my box is going up the creek and if you cant replace it with a new 1 for free i will cancel and go else wear. bobs ur teapot 2 seconds later they will offer you hd box free installation. you dont need to get any extra channels either so no extra cost.
hope that helps and i did the same
