I was thinking of switching to BT for their £16 a month one advertised on tv, due to my current virgin package being £34 a month, 20mb unlimited, which is throttled, and telephone + £3 for the anytime package, upto 60min then redial.
just been to the BT website to check on the 16 a month deal and its frankly worthless. why?

upto 20mb fine, but only 10gb per month usage, and your charged £5 per 5gb you go over, and you have to pay £14.60 a month extra for the phone line or £10 if you pay for the line over 1 year at a 1 off payment of £120. oh and You need to make at least two calls a month to avoid a £1.50 monthly charge.

so lets do the math. £16 first 4 months free, not including the line rental of £14.60, so £30.60 after 4 months, + £5 for every 5gb you go over the 10gb limit per month.
as a heavy downloader say 60gb a week i've cutdown, thats what i used to download a week.
totally disgusting prices, especially when the government is talking to bt about free broadband for everyone.

I have just cancelled with sky after being a customer for 10yrs. I have been on the full package including multiroom and paying at least £60 a month (that's usually with some kind of discount on my account). This time I have rang up for a new deal when my 6months 50% off deal expired and they offered me free little rental for 6 months instead! Don't think so...... Hoping I'll get a call back with a better deal if they want to keep my custom, especially since its coming towards the end of the financial year!

We cancelled last month and was cut off last night, after several phones my boyfriend had got no where only Offering £5 off the Broadband, I called up to complain that they had cut us off a day early (they didn't) and managed to get

Full Sky with Sports but no movies - £44.75, no saving
    Multiroom - £10.25 (no saving)
Line rental - free for 12 months (saving £12.25)
Broadband - free for 12 months (saving £7.50)

1 TB box - £49 (should be £249 as no HD taken)

They couldn't offer me anything on HD so i didn't take it but he said he would put me on the mailing list and I may get an offer on HD..

    Does this seem ok?

I Moved from Sky/BT/Orange a couple of years back to Virgin - the full package - TV, Broadband & Landline in a consolidation & costcutting exercise.
I have to say - their broadband is 2nd to none.
Plus I do like the Tivo box we moved to last Sept/Oct.
BUT the prices have crept up & up, and now they tell me they are adding a further £4 (yes - I know its only £4!) to my monthly bill - this will take it to around £62 a month - excluding any "stray peak calls",and I DONT EVEN HAVE SPORTS OR MOVIES!
I have a Tivo box, an extra box upstairs, XL TV, Evening & Weekend Calls, L Broadband, + Phone line rental. (Plus As Part of the Tivo deal _ I'm on loyalty discount of £8 month until Oct! taking me down to £57) - by Oct I'll be paying £70 !! - HELP !!!
cancel the contract & they'll offer you a deal

Just called them back to accept the offer and a wonderful CS rep called Donna advised me not too. ;)

They have their current offers upgraded on the 28th to include early upgrades to the new speeds if there in the area (and after checking my postcode, it is). She has booked in to call me back on Tuesday to go ahead with the offer but with the early upgrade for the 30mb and I managed to get a 1tb tivo box in too :D

She gave me her details and ext as I said that promised calls havent came before and the deals offered wern't on the screen when I called back in the past, so as long as it goes well on tuesday I will have the following:

L Broadband 10mb (but an early increase to 30mb so effectly the same)
XL TV (175 channels) including HD Channels Stays the same
M Telephone (Unlimited weekend Calls) Upgraded to L for free
x1 1tb Tivo Box free installation & Activaton Added
X1 V+ HD Box moved upstairs
X1 Virgin HD multi room boxes

£57.50 per month 60p higher than eailer quote, but still a saving of (£12.40 saving) (£148.00 per year)

Quite pleased with that if it comes off :D

If somethings seems to good to be true, it normally is lol :p

Just called retentions because I didn't get my call back as promised last night, just spent 30 minutes trying to work out the deal offered or a similar one and got nowhere near, because last weeks offer has expired?

So I gave 30 days notice as Im out of contract, hopefully I'll get a better offer, but feels nice to be able to shop around again tho (will post any outcome)

im with virgin media and my package is

    XL Tv V+hd
    L Broadband
    L phone
    Sky Sports

i'm currently paying £84 a month before the increase, after reading this thread i phoned last night to try and see if i could get a better deal but i was told that because im on the basic package they couldnt offer me anything they only gave me money off my next bill as my tv and internet had been off for 2 days,The only things they suggested was either reducing the tv size or getting rid of the phone as we hardly use it. Should i try again or just give up??

I don't think that this really is a good deal and I am sure you could do better. I rang up end of January and negotiated a deal for 1/2 price TV package for 12months, free multi room subscritpion for 12 months and 1/2 price HD subscription for 12 months. I originally didn't have movies just 1 entertainment pack and no multiroom or HD subscription but managed to get them for free or half price.

Having looked at my bill in February they seemed to not have applied the the discount for television or HD but had applied the multiroom only so I was in fact paying more. However they had given me free line rental on my telephone which I hadn't negotiated for. Having queried with CS rep she advised that the person probably was unable to apply the TV discount but cancellations were closed and to call back tomorrow. So i figured the orignal perason was probably was unable to discount the TV so she gave me the phone discount instead.

I rang back up today to query why discount for TV had not been applied was put through to cancellations. At first he tried to say he would give me a discount on my telephone but I said I already had one he was a bit surprised that I managed to get so much discount but as the notes were there for 50% discount for TV he had to honour it and honoured 1/2 price HD subscription so result :T I've ended up with more discount than I originally negotiated for. I also got them to credit me for the extra I paid last month and for this months bill so all in all i'm :rotfl: . I am now paying £35.62 for TV entertainment & movies HD, Multiroom, broadband & Telephone line rental with unlimited calls. :j

So my advice is to try again and advise them of what you can get from virgin which is what i did originally by looking at the deals some other MSE's had been offered & talk talk etc. You may not get 50% off TV but the lady said yesterday she could apply 25% now but cancellations have to agree the 50% deal. So have another go you might get lucky.
  • On cancelling virgin media services do you get an email or postal confirmation?
  • After not much success with haggling with Sky in the past, I called them up the other day to cancel phone and broadband as I had been offered a better deal with my staff discount. Without hesitation, the girl in retentions offered me line rental, phone and BB for 12 months for £7.50 a month! AND, she have also applied a credit of £60 to our bill as a 'gesture of goodwill' (not quite sure why, I wasn't actually complaining at all, but I didn't say no!) and a 6 month discount on our TV package. Well, either I got thought to someone who had a bit of clout when it comes to retaining customers, or maybe she was on her last day and really didn't care what discounts she offered!
It kind of makes up for all the times I was told 'Sorry, no discounts. I'll set a disconnection date.'
