How long ago did your BT services start? Can you not cancel under their cooling off period?
When they listen to the recording and it backs me up, then I am expecting the contract to be terminated with a full refund, although I have not actually paid anything yet.
They just will not ring me though, when I called to ask why nobody had rung me, the lady said they have millions of recordings to listen to, to which I replied "I am not surprised"
Although I am reluctant to admit it, TV Vision is actually OK, perfect picture, but trying to get them to sort anything out is a nightmare, what can I do other than wait till somebody gets round to contacting me.

Just rang Sky and told them that i had a better broadband offer through the post from Orange (which I had - same line rental but £5 for unlimited broadband compared to £7.50 for sky, + £40 M&S vouchers). Sky offered me free line rental and unlimited broadband for £2 a month for 9 months! Saving me £17.75 for 9 months (total £159.75)

Couldn't get anything off my TV package at the same time but will make sure to ring them about that in a few weeks to see if they can offer anything better on that.

  • Hi

I am new to these forums so apologies if I am not posting in the right place but was wondering if you could help with a bit of a dilemma.

I currently use virgin for TV, Phone line and broadband and my Boyfriend uses Sky.

We are moving into a new house together at the end of the month and are trying to decide who to use and whether to organise this as a transfer of service or new customers. We are unsure whether we will get offered a better package as a new customer?

We ideally want something similar to TV XL package, Sky + or V+/ Tivo and broadband.

We also want to be able to view different channels in two rooms. Also we will be working from home with a phone line provided by BT paid for by employers.

I like the on demand capability of Virgin but my Boyfriend is a big fan of Sky Atlantic.

Can you give me any advice re which provider is better and the best way to get the best deal?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give
  • We're out of contract with Sky, currently have their TV and phone but our Broadband is with Orange ( and awful!) Eldest child has been nagging at me to go with Virgin because of the fibre optic capacity so I looked at comparable prices for our package ( Sky Multiroom, sports and Movies - the works)

Just called Sky and asked for Cancellations straight away, explained that we're out of contract and that I am considering Virgin for everything, quoted a leaflet that came through the door a week ago for 3 months free and couldnt' have dealt with a nicer Customer Services Advisor.

Asked me a few details of like for like packages, I said, given a choice I'd not move from Sky since we've had it since 1992 and almost immediately he offere to reduce my payments per month from £62.25 to £49.25 without a fixed length contract.

I even said we would be taking the phone to Virgin to get a free router and he said it was fine! All in all, took about seven minutes and I've saved £156 for a year. I'm over the moon!!

Just called retentions because I didn't get my call back as promised last night, just spent 30 minutes trying to work out the deal offered or a similar one and got nowhere near, because last weeks offer has expired?

So I gave 30 days notice as Im out of contract, hopefully I'll get a better offer, but feels nice to be able to shop around again tho (will post any outcome)

Got the call from retentions this morning (Only took 3 days) he asked me why I was leaving so I said I had a leaflet offer through the door with sky and with the current climate it's a money saving exercise, although I did express that I didn't want to leave them as I didn't want the hassle and have been with them for years without any problems. After going through various deals I ended up with a fantastic offer to stay:

L Broadband 30mb (Same as before)
    XL TV (Same as before)
    L Telephone Upgraded from M
x1 1tb Tivo Box free installation & Activaton Added because of the previous promise on last expired offer
X1 V+ HD Box moved upstairs
X1 Virgin HD multi room boxes
x2 months free on all services

£62.90 per month (12 Month Contract)

My price on previous package would of been £73.40 per so my savings are below:

    2 months free £125.80
    New price saving: £126.00

Total Saving: £251.80 (could of only done it with the help of this forum - so a big thanks to all :T)

I have a simple package: £20 per month for normal channels and Sky+ HD box but no HD, movies or sport.

I'm about to have a baby so lookig at ways of cutting costs everywhere. Sky doesn't escape this review. However I'm now a fairly low paying customer so would they do much to keep?

As an aside, I'm also going to be calling O2 about my mobile (ends June), O2 broadband (already out of contract) and BT line (also out of contract).

I'm keen on getting HD channels but don't really want to end up paying extra and also anything on demand which means I either go for Virgin Tivo or wait for Sky Anytime+

Anyone got any ideas if Sky will try to keep me, upsell or should I look elsewhere.

I'd prefer to stay with Sky for ease and get some on demand services. At the moment I'm thinking of taking O2's homephone for £7.50 per month (my BB is £6.49 for unlimited 7MB) and ditching BT. Anything from Sky would be a bonus.

Any ideas no matter how small would help me with my tactics.

    Cheers all

i was also on a small tv package £24.50 when i decided to haggle after 8yrs. i told them i had been pricing up all of the below(which i had)& also that i was going to switch to virgin, even though i cant get virgin tv in my area
i phoned up and asked for quote on what price they would offer for
    sky unlimited bb
    eve & w/end calls
    same tv package
sky+ box (didnt want hd package)
    router
    line rental

quoted £32.50 (line rental free for a year) but wouldn't give me box without hd package £10 ish a month
said no as i didnt want to increase outgoings

signed up for this package £32.50

thought about it for a couple of days and decided wasn't good enough so rang them back and repeated 'not good enough, everyone else got sky+ free except me, always pay my bills & get nothing etc
so i have the above now with a sky+ hd box (without having the hd package) i dont have a hd tv anyway, free installation with the free line rental. so to sum up:

I have the entertainment tv package
free line rental for a year
    eve & w/end calls
    sky broadband unlimited
sky+hd box (without having to have hd package)
    new router
    free installation
    = £32.50

is this a good deal or must try harder !

I've got the same as you plus 6 months free broadband and I'm a new customer. Also got some credit for not 'going back' to VM. Still going to try my luck as I'm within my cooling off period...

well you could risk cancelling to get the same/better deal but go to sky via QUIDCO as they have a up to £150 cash back plus £50 m& s vouchers for new customers plus what ever vouchers they are offering from sky online, have alook on there, takes a minute to register plus you can save loads on other shops & services. good luck, let us know what you get.

Has anyone any tips/tactics on getting another deal from Sky?

I moved house last July and they gave me a 50% discount which has no expired. I have HD with Sports but no movies.

I would be happy to move phone and broadband but I'm in contract with BT & O2 until July (they tied me in when I moved).
