My in-laws cancelled their sky a month ago, then got called by Sky & offered Entertainment & Movies for £18pm for 12months.
As I'm paying £22.50 for Sky+ Entertainment extra package with no Movies, Sports or HD I thought I'd call them up.;)
Pressed the upgrade option on the phone, got someone who had no idea how the inlaws got such a good offer and offered me at most 25% off any upgrade, so I asked for retentions.
there a very nice lady said that the inlaws must have got the basic entertainment (no kids or music channels) + movies, but she couldnt match it:(, again she could give me a discount on movies but not much. I asked how long I'd been with Sky, she responded 2006. I then asked when my billing date was so that I could give 31 days notice to leave, which she provided and then reminded me I would lose my pause/rewind and ability to watch any recordings on my planner etc (trying to talk me out of it).
I insisted I still wanted to leave as I couldnt get anything extra without extra cost and I can watch a lot of stuff on freeview, iplayer, 4OD etc etc. all for free (a key statement to make I think)
She then asked
if i was interested in broadband & calls with them, free for 12 months. A good deal, but I'm in contract with orange and if you want Unlimited broadband & all day calls with sky the price soon overtakes my current orange package.
She then offered me multi-room, free for 12 months, with a free Sky+HD box (but not HD subscription).:)
I then expected to be told self install or £60 for an engineer but to my surprise, FREE installation too.:j
Jokingly I then said shame you cant throw in HD subscription free too (so I can watch F1 soon), to which she gave it to me half price for the 12 months.:j
So in summary, I have entered a new 12 month contract, but for the same price getting the same channels, an additional HD+ box with multiroom sub and free install.
Additionally I'm getting HD sub that gives me Formula 1for just £5.12 on top per month, fixed for 12 months (£61.44) for the year, after that I'm free to cancel / renegotiate if i wish!
Just wish I'd done it sooner, but least this will get me to the end of the F1 season!!0 -
Got the call from retentions this morning (Only took 3 days) he asked me why I was leaving so I said I had a leaflet offer through the door with sky and with the current climate it's a money saving exercise, although I did express that I didn't want to leave them as I didn't want the hassle and have been with them for years without any problems. After going through various deals I ended up with a fantastic offer to stay:
L Broadband 30mb (Same as before)
XL TV (Same as before)
L Telephone Upgraded from M
x1 1tb Tivo Box free installation & Activaton Added because of the previous promise on last expired offer
X1 V+ HD Box moved upstairs
X1 Virgin HD multi room boxes
x2 months free on all services
£62.90 per month (12 Month Contract)
My price on previous package would of been £73.40 per so my savings are below:
2 months free £125.80
New price saving: £126.00
Total Saving: £251.80 (could of only done it with the help of this forum - so a big thanks to all :T):D

hi
think i have found a good deal from virgin but just wanted to know if anybody knew if i can get anything better. Simplify digital has offered me the following:
tv m+
bb L
phone line M
The bundle works out £20 per month and Phone line is the standard £13.90
Its an 18month contract
£100 cash back from simplify digital
£50 cash back from virgin
They also offered 3 month free for the bundle so i have worked out the following:
£13.90 x 18(months) = £250.20
£20 x £15(months) = £300
total=£550.20
-£150 cash back
=£400.20 divide by 18month works out to be £22.23 per month.
the activation, installation, box and router are also all free.
has anybody tried the cash back from simplify digital before? And does anybody know of any better deals. Please let me know asap as I am planning to join this evening.
thanks a lot0 -
Husband cancelled our Multi-room about a year ago. We have Sky+ HD box with all channels subscription. He's been looking at Freesat as I've complained I can't watch what I want to when he's got golf or other sport stuff on or watching something he's recorded! Also when sons are home they complain too
. I pointed out to him today that buying a freesat box for £250 with loads of room for me to record was silly because if we go back to multiroom it will work out cheaper - we still have old Sky+ box, not HD though. So he said get it at a good price and you can have it. Hummmm - challenge for me! Before I ring Sky at some stage has anyone managed to get multiroom as an added extra for less than £10 please? Thanks
.

Can anyone tell me what the Sky broadband service is like? I'm in London.
Virgin just rang me for the 2nd time into my cancellation period and didn't even bother to offer me a deal! They just said fine, my services will still switch off as planned!
So now I do need to go and set up Sky sharpish!!0 -

I have L broadband, XL TV and L phone, been with VM for 8+ years.
I'm assuming (at this stage) that they're calling my bluff (but a dangerous game to play - perhaps). I'm not going to blink first though...hoping for Call#2 from Retentions with some indication that they're prepared to offer me a deal.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance!0 -
I received this call (Call#1) earlier today as well. I cancelled on 1 March arguing that Sky are offering me a cracking deal, they have Sky Atlantic which has some programmes I'd like to watch etc, Virgin can't offer me this etc. Very pleasant girl, all very civil. After some chatting (Sky don't do this, that and the other etc), she gave me a disconnection date of 1 April adding they're sorry to see me leave.

^ This was already call 2 for me, call 1 they offered me a few pounds off and couple of months free, said they would call back. Today, different person, said ok fine, no deal offered at all, not even the same one.
Now though, Sky have halved their cashback and M&S voucher down to £50, wish I hadn't waited for Virgin to call me now! Sky's latest offers seem to be ending in 3 days, not sure whether to just sign up now to Sky or wait for Virgin to call again - otherwise I'm going to have a major gap in service if I still end up going to Sky a few weeks down the line...0 -
Ah, you are already on Call #2 from Retentions (I'm only on my first). Interesting to note we received much the same response on the same day. I hadn't realised that Sky has halved their offer. Could be VM are aware of this - I'm going to wait until the end of this week when Sky should have new offers; hope VM call with a decent offer. If push comes to shove, I can "cancel the cancellation" a couple of days before the end is due.0
