Waving at drivers who have the same car as you?!

  • We used to have a Daihatsu Hijet 6-seater, and we always waved at others! They used to point and wave back!
Owners of raggedy old Landrovers actually park near each other in carparks and compare notes about their wrecks/pride and joys. At least that's what my OH used to find when he owned one.

Motor caravanners wave at each other. It can be a bit embarrassing when you see a luton heading towards you, wave, and then find out it is a commercial vehicle.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I thought it was very odd when I bought a Triumph Herald and found that other owners waved, but I got to like it and it became second nature to give a wave.

When I bought a very elderly Mercedes I asked the seller if other owners of elderly Mercs waved at each other and he looked at me like I was mental and said, "err....no", in a voice that said, "why on earth would they??"
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.

The only other similar reaction was with a TR7 when it was common courtesy to flash the pop up headlights at one another.

if Im out in my TR7 I get waved at/flashed by other Triumph drivers. There are a few out there who will never recognise the 7 as a Triumph and ignore you though lol

OH drives a PT Cruiser and they always wave :D

LR owners, at least of older vehicles, will often go much further than just waving. If you stop at the side of the road, you will often get other drivers stopping to check if you need fuel or a tow. I've towed people home before now, and been offered a tow or a jerrycan more than once.

One mate of mine even loaned his spare wheel to someone (and got it back!)

I even stopped to help a J**p once, but it was dark and no-one saw me :rotfl:

I used to drive a mog too, people always waved. The problem I found though is if I went anywhere like Tesco etc Id always have a small congregation of older blokes around the car wanting to ask me questions and chat. It was lovely, but usually added 3/4 hour on to any trip lol

Same usually happens when Im out in the TR7, though its a younger bunch lol. I don't think they expect to find a girl driving it.

Best thing I ever had was during a bin strike. Car (traveller) loaded up to high heavens with stinking household rubbish. Opened the back doors at the tip and an old boy saunters over "I used to have one of these, mind if I have a smell?" then came "Aah, they all smell the same dont they?" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.... :rotfl:

LMAO, he's right though, they do have a smell. I really miss mine, wasn't my choice to get rid but it had to go very quickly (long, complex story)

I recall having a local council maintenance worker grovelling apologies after he pulled out on me, drum brakes as you are no doubt aware will not stop you that quickly. Fortunately there was nothing coming the other way as I ended up on the opposite side of the road. I followed him, steaming angry and when he stopped unleashed a potted history on why you don't pull out on old cars because they simply cannot stop. My 2 kids were cringing in the car and the poor man was so apologetic. I very much doubt he will ever pull out on an old car again :rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi

Just wondered if other car drivers wave at you if you have the same car and pass them in the road?

Obviously you wouldn't if you had a popular car like a Focus or Audi A3 (far to many about to wave at everyone!!)

When I pass other people who have the same car they often wave! Happened to me this morning on the way to Sainsbury's. I waved back (didn't want to appear rude!)

Seems a strange thing to do, I suppose they are just being friendly! Anybody here wave at other drivers?

i wave to other mx5 owners I know or dont know as I have a 17 year old mx5.:rotfl:
