I am going over to Ireland (South), shortly. I have an Orange PAYG mobile. Is there anyway I can make free/cheap calls to the UK from that, or should I just use a public payphone?

These services only work outbound from the UK. They dont work when your roaming outside UK. Plus you cant use them from payg within the UK,without them costing you an arm and a leg.0 -
mobilegossip wrote:This can be done as follows:
On a Nokia phone
Step 1 Enter the access number
Step 2 Press 3 times to show ' p '. (This causes dialling to pause)
Step 3 Enter your destination number - including the full international code
For example:
07744 xxxxxx p 00972 XXXX XXXX
On a Motorola or Ericsson phone
Step 1 Enter the access number
Step 2 Press and hold to show ' p '. (This causes dialling to pause)
Step 3 Enter your destination number - including the full international code
For example:
07744 xxxxxx p 00972 XXXX XXXX
Just to add to the above post as it does not tell what to press : On the Nokia you need to press * 3 times to get the p. On the Motorola you need to press * and hold till you get the p.0 -
I have been using this method for a while now and it has saved me a very large amount of money.
I'm with orange and get 2900 xnet mins for £45. I wanted to get clarity from Orange about these numbers being included in xnet mins. I got several different answers. I was told I would be charged and at various prices ranging from 25p per min upto 50 per min depending on who I spoke to. All the answers I got were wrong.
I can assure people that 07744 ARE included on orange xnet mins as is stated in the article.
So if you call them to ask be warned... they often dont know!
Its also prudent to point out that sometimes these numbers take a long time to connect and that the line quality can be bad and confusing with audio delays within the conversation of between 1 to 3 seconds on some connections. Most however are perfectly fine.
Of other interest is that T mobile business tariffs actually include north america and europe, landlines and mobiles, in their cross network minutes.
And one last word of warning. Even though it seems obvious to say this, dont go over your inclusive minutes. It's easy to do if you feel its free and it can work out very expensive!

I was just about to give up using 07744 through orange after calling the orange customer service to enquire about dialling 07744 numbers and been told I was going to be charged as if I had used my phone to make a direct international call.
But after reading your comment I decided to call again this time I was told 07744 numbers were included in the cross network minutes, to be double sure I asked the customer service advisor to put a note on my account that I did call to enquire about 07744 numbers and he’s advised me it would be taken out of my inclusive minute.
So for all of you on orange who want to use 07744 you can go ahead and use it or follower my example.

Anybody know a way of using my 3 mobile over there to call home, without paying £1.50 a minute?
Would be really grateful for any help you can give.

get a t-mobile prepay sim card and a calling card - much much cheaper
prepay is cheap as hell
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/Default.aspx?plancategory=4
get a sim from ebay.com, 2 might be good if you have a phone you can web browse and email from as for $1 a day on sidekick tarriff you can get this - downside is 15 cents a min calls
compared with $100 buying 1000 minutes on the standard tariff'sIf I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:
