Thinking about it this get more unbelievable - I'd doubt the nurse would have cited the DPA anyway, the term used is "patient confidentiality"

Anyway The hospital can give out information to a parent as long as they can satisfy the Hospital of their identity.

Oh I know! I was merely keeping the late entrant into the thread up to speed as they seem to have a different take on things!;)

Yes when it was said at the time, I thought that was odd. Particularly as the OP said that she said her Son was there beside her and could he talk to the nurses but he wouldn't get info either?!

    Seems quite clear Loopy:

Baby is accompanied by grandmother and is ok.

You have children? Well I hope you're never in hospital with one of your kids, desperately ill with his/her sats all over the place and the on-call doctors scratching their heads.. To then have the staff rush away from your baby's bedside because half a dozen belligerent, drunk individuals are literally battering at the ward door yelling that their kid is inside and they want in!!

..Not that OP and her family would have behaved like that I'm sure - but in the middle of the night none of the staff should be distracted. There simply aren't enough night staff to deal with unknown people who claim they have a right to be there..

My child was gravely ill a few years ago....for 5 nights I slept on a floor only cushioned by a thin bit of foam and moved to go to the loo and have a quick wash every day. For 3 days my child's sats weren't even reaching 85...so yeah, been there and got the t-shirt. Sadly

And who said the OP's son was going to be drunk and demanding to get in? There used to be a few Dad's that would come into the ward pretty late as they done shift work or whatever - no problem with the nurses and there was no issue with me. Better a concerned parent than a no show.

Why doesn everyone think that parents going to a ward outhwith 'business hours' are going to be drunk and demanding? Think that says more about you than it does of me.

So yeah, that's how I can't get my head around why a parent wouldn't want to be there.

And if you re-read the quote which you have so desperately been searching for then the OP states that the nurses said 'errrm yh' and then goes on to say that 'they are more worried than ever'

So quite clearly everyone was comfortable with the babies's condition. Not

    Your point being?

I think loopy was being sarcastic - If you are familiar with the entire thread you'll understand why.

I just feel sorry for the poor babe in the middle of this mess.

But having no wish for a slanging match with anyone, I shall wish OP All the Best and retire..

Strangely enough, I think seeing how your child is takes precedent over your feelings on the overstretched NHS.

Might just be me though....freaky parent that I am:eek:

Has it really? Jeez...I thought it was very polite and merely stated what we were all thinking.

I wonder who went snivelling to the Mods?
