There is evidence to suggest neglect but as the other grandmother looks after him all the time apart from when we see him its difficult
The mum doesnt care for him at all she goes out drinking and is planning a 4 day 4 night drinking session this w/end and tricked meaning she said she was on the pill

Then why haven't social services removed the child from its mothers care ?

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh and In realise that you are worried about your grandsons welfare, but I really cannot imagine that the court will give residency to your son unless there is sufficient evidence that the child's welfare is in danger. As social services obviously feel that the child's needs are being adequately met at present then it would be difficult to prove otherwise.

Just have to say although a 4 day,4 night drinking session isn't my idea of good fun ,I don't think that the courts would consider it a deciding factor as the mother has alternative arrangements for the baby to be looked after.

Does your son really want to look after the baby full time and be responsible for the child for the next 18 years or is it what you really want ? If your son is serious about having residency then perhaps he could find out about parenting classes and accommodation as this would look favorable if social services or indeed the child's mother decides she can no longer care for the baby

They have been over loading his tummy feeding him 6 oz then 2 hours later another 2 0z and he is having double what he should be having at his age but when his at mine for a few days his fine but its not the mum doing it its the other grandmother
the police were hunting her down as they have suspicians she is giving him calpol to get him to sleep as his been very dopey and the mum told me the docs prescribed it but theres no record of it

Anybody with any medical knowledge knows that calpol does not make a child dopey - its active ingredient is paracetamol -there is absolutely no active ingredients in calpol that would / could "dope" a child.

How would you know that there is no record of the doctors prescribing the calpol ? Anyway calpol is readily available OTC and there is no need for a prescription.

    Hi,

Your son wasn't 'tricked' into this, at seventeen years of age he knows very well that he needs to take responsibility and use a condom. He is as much responsible as the Mother of his child is.

Oral thrush is not uncommon nor is constipation in a baby. How do you know that he is being overfed?

If Social Services are concerned then they will do what they can to support the new Mum. They are not probably going to look to favourably at a seventeen year old who was 'tricked', a student and not even providing for his own care.

In my opinion, same as another post you, should be trying to help and support the Mum. If you don't and carry on how you are and no neglect is proven. You are very likely to alienate yourself completely from your Grandson.

It is also a good question as whether you or your son would even be suitable alternatives to caring for the baby.

Doctors only prescribe calpol under the age of 3 months it is not reccommended to babies under the age of 3 months and if it was that safe i dont think the police and social workers would be trying so hard to find her and see if the baby was safe
  • What a miserable bunch of uppity posters we have here. The lady needs advice, not ticking off. Get theeself to Citizens Advice pronto. Think about what the reality of having a baby (feeding & cleaning for yourself & son/grandson) in the house full time and have a proper chat with your boy and find out what his plans are (if you can, leave emotions to one side). This should be your plan for the next month. Until you can action any of the points, try to be as supportive as you can to the Mum also, babysitting and helping out if possible. They’ll thank you for it.

I was advised to give my babies calpol after immunisations, under the age of 3 months. I don't recall any police chasing me.

Ummm actually you can give Calpol from 2 months...it says so on the box. As babies get their jabs at 8 weeks, it makes sense.

That is true. However, there is a 'night-time' Calpol that can be purchased from the chemist which although doesn't 'dope' babies/children, it does have an ingredient that can help settle them.

Of course if it is being abused (which it will be without a doubt by certain parents) then they don't stick to the guidelines of 1 x 5ml dose - they give far far more to get a 'better effect'.

All it takes is for one 'parent' to say it had an effect and then it sweeps through a group like wildfire,
  • I cant believe all of this i came on here for advice the social worker advised me to seek it and i thought as i have always been helped on here and yes ive registered under a different name id get the advice i needed and the helpful ppl this forum used to be full of
I have given all my children advice about when they feel ready to have sex i have bought them condoms and he did use 1 but it split but thought it was ok cos she was on the pill
I didnt expect to come on here and have my parenting skills put down thankyou for all those that have given me helpful advice as this is what this forum is for, i have never judged ppl the way a lot of you have
I am really shocked at how you think u have the right to judge and yes it is a difficult situation and yes there is a lot more i could say about this situation but cant cos of their privacy etc all i asked was about how to go about it and legal aid
  • OP you need to find out (if possible) what drugs your grandson's mother is meant to be taking. This is important because your son has had unprotected sex with this woman.

On a separate issue, have you advised your son to get checked for STIs? If your son wasn't sure if the child was his, that implies that there were other partners.
