Anyone Like Fast cars

I understand some will criticise that they aren't money saving....but i'm sure you'd all agree even money savers are allowed to have nice things.

We have gone without so much over the years and I am looking to get something a bit quick now and have found a bargain.

My concern is going from a 50mpg car to a 35mpg car. This may cost me another £400 a year!

I just wondered if anyone has any tips or advice really?

Cheers

If you want speed it costs money. If you are worried about another £400/annum then you can't afford it.

Reminds of the gentleman who asked at the Rolls Royce dealer what the fuel consumption was and was told if that was a concern the car wasn't for him....:rotfl:

Can you use the car less?

I've tried out all sorts of different ways to do my commuting... train, bicycle, running and now a Vespa 125cc scooter (the cheapest and quickest overall). It means that I can have a cool car for when I need it. Like, er, Tesco shopping. Or showing off at rallies!

Another point to add, though - how much will the insurance and tax go up?

What sort of tips do you want?

Any fast car is going to cost you money, whether you have a lead foot or not. Fuel, insurance and tax are all going to be consderably more.

    What sort of price range?

agreed i had a subaru couple years ago pre children, everything associated with running a car was so much more expensive than a normal car but if you have a car like that then it is something you should not worry about.
if you are worried about running costs then do not get a performance car simple as that.
Had it not been for lack of boot space i would still have it the fuel costs etc made no odds to me the missus had a smart car for pottering about in and i have comapny van so scooby was not in daily use more for going out as family.plus i had already spent £5-6k on mods that i would never get back when selling.

there are fast cars out there that are somewhat economical like some of the diesels that are on market these days, mate of mine has a 335d that is fast yet still has respectable mpg figures.

what is your budget and what sort of car are you thinking of?

You're asking for something that people can't really give you.

If you want the fast car then you've got to just take the hit on fuel economy.

If you want fuel economy then it's no good buying a very fast car.

Can't really have your cake and eat it.

Unless you have a very fast diesel car perhaps.

Don't get a fast car for use as your main car. There is no joy driving a Subaru or whatever on a rush hour commute as you're still stuck in a queue between roundabouts, or behind some codger in a 1.0 Ford Ka doing 60 down the outside lane alongside 2 lanes of HGVs. Plus when you park up outside work or Tesco or wherever there is the worry of someone damaging or stealing your car.

Keep your sensible car, or downsize it to something more basic, and have a fast car as a weekend toy. Consider getting an older one that you can put on a classic car policy since you'll only be doing limited mileage.

Tesla Roadster? No petrol bills at all!

Some of the BMW diesel engines are economic and seriously fast.
