Made 1/4 portion on Panzanella tonight. Huge amount bread, could only manage about half.

Not to keen on it so would not make again.

I am enjoing all this simultaneous cooking malarkey :)

    Yeah, me too :T

Speaking of which, I've been turning my thoughts towards next week's dinners - I am doing three Kitty dinners next week, on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and was wondering if anyone had any particular preferences for dishes to try next week, so we could synchronise again ?

It's from the following - I will be doing three of those that are as yet uncrossed and am looking for suggestions from those.

    [STRIKE]1. Pasta Funghi[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]2. Panzanella[/STRIKE]
    3. Bean curry
    4. Sweetcorn fritters
    [STRIKE]5. Shepherdess pie[/STRIKE]
    6. Calzone
    [STRIKE]7. Tomato and olive pie[/STRIKE]
    8. Pea risotto
    9. Veggie burgers
    10. Saag aloo
    11. Nut roast
    12. Red pepper pasta
    13. Moroccan rice
    14. BNS risotto
    15. Onion tart

Have you tried the nut roast yet Allegra? It's probably my favourite CFR dish, so gets my vote for next week.

Sounds like you may also be busy making plum jam...

    ....And it's me again ! :)

Just a quick reminder about the London meet on the 21st August - Weezl and family are coming up to see the Ministry of Food exhibition at the Imperial War Museum, and a bunch of us are joining them. Weezls and a few others will be there for about tennish, but some of us will join in a little bit later due to train times. Because of the logistics of this and the scope for people getting lost and missing each other, aless02 and Julimk have kindly volunteered (or been volunteered) as our points of contact (someone to phone if you can't find the group, or are running late or whatever), so if you're coming to the meet, please send them your mobile phone no.

Partners and welcome (and are indeed coming in droves), and we are thinking of a picnic lunch, so if you can bring some, do - if you can bring something to share, please do ;) - but if you can't, don't panic, we'll try to find somewhere for you to grab a bite to eat :)

It has been suggested that it'd be sensible to buy the tickets for the exhibition in advance (don't think we have done it yet though), so bear that in mind, and, um.... What else ? Dunno. If I have forgotten or left something out, someone please fill in the gap :D

Nope, not yet, but totally up for it. What evening can you do it ?

Yep, plum jam on the cards, definitely. What else can I make with plums though ? There really is a lot of them, and I can't let them go to waste, now can I....

Half and stone them... put in roasting tin... throw in some whole spices such as star anise, cinnamon, cloves... sprinkle with ground nutmeg and ground cinnamon (if not added whole)... scatter a good handful of muscovado sugar on top... add red wine (depends on quantity of plums and size of tin, but say 1/2 to 1 bottle, to come half way up the sides of the plums)... cover tightly with foil... bake until tender. Serve cold in summer, with whipped cream, Greek yoghurt or ice cream. Or freeze (it freezes really well), and produce it at Christmas, served hot.

Alternatively, stone them, add an equal weight of sugar, and cover with rum or brandy, keeping them submerged (e.g. with saucer). A "plumtopf" sort of rumtopf! (Again, keep for Christmas. Strain and drink the liquid, and serve the tipsy fruit with cream or ice cream.)

Like hornetgirl, I think the nut roast sounds interesting. Also the pea risotto. And maybe the bean curry? As this week, I can't do Monday or Tuesday, though, so whatever I end up cooking will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday instead. I'll try to match up with you on Thursday, though.

By the way, Weezl, there is a typo in the title of the pea risotto recipe. It says "pea and sund-ried tomato risotto" instead of "pea and sun-dried tomato risotto", found on page http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipe-risiebisivegan.html?opt=p3m1

Either Monday or Tuesday would be great for the nut roast for me.

What would be the lowest score to earn a dish a regular spot on your menu, Susan ?
I don't usually rate things on a numerical scale but it'd probably need to be a six. A five would be neutral i.e. don't actively like but don't actively dislike and anything below five would be dislike. My system when trying a new recipe is just to ask OH if he would have it again.
