ok! here is my basic message to mr arty: any idea why the database isn't putting red lentil pate in the show all lunches output?

It is marked as a lunch so theoretically should do- can you see any obvious glitches?

Okey dokey will hopefully remember to ask him!! lol

Murrel, sian, susan, avocet, altho you don't skype generally please do feel this invite is meant for you if you'd like to be involved in that way.
Thank you for the invitation. I will be with you in spirit, but I'm afraid that I will have to pass. I'm not keen on "real-time chat" (various reasons, none of them related to this particular project) and I don't need Skype for anything else so I am reluctant to install it. But I appreciate the invitation, and am happy to discuss anything you like via the forum.

avocet I hope you see this in time, but I wanted to say that the stock from the olive jar does add a nice extra garlickyness, so you might want to add a little more than is suggested in recipe.
Thank you. I'll maybe see if I can get hold of some garlic-stuffed ones instead, then. However many olives there are in the house, having more can never be a bad thing! :-)

Oh, and a couple of people are running a bit later with it, so if you fancy the funghi, you can do it in the next half of this week along with Avocet !
    I'm planning to do:
    • the five-loaf batch of bread and the pasta funghi tomorrow (Wednesday)
    • the shepherdless pie on Thursday
    • the panzanella on Friday
    • the tomato and olive pudding on Saturday (to use up the remnants of the drained olives from Wednesday, in an attempt to discipline myself into not simply eating them all)
And then on Sunday, I will go mad with a Thai noodle thing, involving prawns, pak choi, coconut milk and every profligate ingredient I can lay my hands on! :-)

That's a long time to be kitchenless, Weezl ! Still, it'll all be worth it in the end, with the shiny new fancy kitchen to let loose in :T

Pasta - nice, but I think it was actually nicer with the SP mushrooms :T !!!!!! thought it was "alright", which was the verdict last time, too - he never finished his portion though as apparently he had lots of free sandwiches at work this afternoon, so although I found my portion quite sufficient, I happily polished off the remainder of his, too.

All in all, an excellent start

Oh yeah - Lesley, I found that runners, while a bit, well, ghastly when frozen raw or just blanched, are quite alright if stewed ir slow cooked first. That assumes you like the taste of them stewed or SCd in the first place though - some people don't.

Another way I often eat them (and also think freezes ok): onion, sliced + garlic, crushed, + passata (or chopped tinned toms if you'd rather) + paprika + seasoning; add boiled or steamed runners, bubble slowly for 25-30 mins. Good as a side dish or a main on top of rice or mashed potato.

As for serving them as a "salady" side dish, warm or cold is fine. My mum usually does them in vast amounts, serves first time warm, then cold ad nauseam until they're all gone ;)

thanks Allegra, I'll def give that a go. I do like runners done in tom sauce as it happens. Next problem is actually finding room in the freezer of course, origami here I come

the tomato and olive pudding on Saturday

Ohhh, that's smashing - as it happens, I have just identified my own window to try the tomato and olive pie (!!!!!! doesn't want much on Saturday night, so not much is what he's gonna get), and as it happens it's Saturday :D

Anyone else for tomato and olive pudding on Saturday ?

Weezl, I understand the impulse to aim for 10/10, but how many 10/10s do you have in your usual repertoire ? I have perhaps half a dozen altogether, and as for 10/10 for both of us... To be honest, I don't dare ask ;)

Personally, anything that scores over 3 for us both and has some other redeeming feature (like ease or frugality) becomes a regular.

I was getting there with space until all the fruits and veg started arriving from the garden, and that space seems to have gone again now!

Still, I'm not complaining, it's all stuff that's 'free'. I spotted a tree on the roadside with some apples on today, I'll investigate that soon

 Your scale must be different to mine because if I rated something as a 3/10 it would mean I would only eat it if I was someone's guest and they served it to me.
