What is Rocky Road ? It sounds nice... :)
  • Hi Mardatha

Rocky Road is an American thing - think it's basically melted chocolate, caramel, nuts, raisins, cherries, marshmallows, crushed biscuits etc all mixed together and then left to set in the fridge, and served in slices like cake. Never made it myself but sounds really easy and the slices I've bought at Starbucks have always been lovely... but very expensive!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/rockyroadcrunchbars_87104 Here's a recipe for Rocky Road Crunch bars by Nigella, so prob not very frugal :o but if you Google there's loads of other recipes and as long as it goes with chocolate, you can add pretty much what you like to it!

Off now, nearly time to escape work... yipeeee! xxx

its not strictly Rocky Road but I love this recipe for fridge cake http://www.silverspoon.co.uk/home/recipes/05/frosted-fudgy-fridge-cake you could chuck cherries in it, i usually use dried blueberries and cranberries in mine
thinking about it the topping could be frugal, I make it with more milk and top cakes with it, much quicker than choc buttercream because there's no whipping
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

I love Rocky Road and it would prob be frugalish as it is very sweet so you cant eat too much of it. (thats the theory anyway).
Made a Thai soup tonight so having that with some bread rolls (reduced not HM). Hope everyone is having a good night. I have a couple of days off for a change so hopefully keep up a bit better than i have been. xx

Well i do try but the cup of tea i have with it keeps the sweetness down so i can manage another slice:o:o

:rotfl: I like your thinking Shanks! True it is very sweet and rich so you can't eat much... altho agree it's nice to try Mardatha! If you're a dark choc fan, could try using that if you make it - always find I eat less dark choc than milk as it's more satisfying. :) Glad you like the idea anyway!

ETA: Just had an absolutely gorgeous dinner courtesy of a suggestion from the lovely PinkHayley - Lamb Pastitsio (recipe here) - made mine with pasta as per recipe but there's also notes on how to turn it into Shepherd's Pie using potatoes, very easy to make and versatile too. Could be ripe for frugalisation Weezl! ;)

Also I cheated a bit and used a jar of white lasagne sauce that needed using up instead of making my own, but added an egg as per instructions and the sauce was lovely, will be using that trick if I use sauce from a jar again when making lasagne. So thanks for that one Hayley, will become a regular now Chez Venus!

  • Hope you are all well and glad to hear the brownies are a success. :T

I still haven't made the brownies yet but really want to. Does anyone know whether the amont of sugar on the recipe is the amount we are to use or has it been reduced since then?

Brownies, cheesecake.. there's so much yummy food to make, we are spoiled for choice! :D
