I made the brownies today. The plan was for DD to do most of it & I was setting up the ingredients & melting chocolate when the 'phone rang & it was one of her friends! So she disappeared & I made them.
Made roughly half quantity, as only had about 80g of plain 'value' choc in (had bought bar for baking but DD had been snacking!) The caster sugar was topped up with demarera, as ran out, and had two small eggs. Was incredibly easy to make.
Took ages to cool down in the tray & DD couldn't wait & had a little bit still warm. She said it was like chocolate fondant pudding - maybe a variation, served warm as a chocolate pudding? Now it is completely cool it is solid but still gooey in the middle, so definitely a success.0 -
Hi all today we (arty and I) upgraded the site to include nutrition boxes on the planner recipes so you can see easily what's in each dish. Our FAQs page is also more visible now, being on the menu bar
Thanks re: the quote HG

And juliette thanks for feedback, would it be ok to use your tip abaout brownie as chocolate fondant?

Absolutely weezl, feel free to use anything I post!
I put a bit of brownie in DD's packed lunch today & she has eaten two more pieces since she has been home! (She is a dustbin at the moment!) And has asked if we can make more tomorrow & then said, well it is cheap isn't it? :rotfl:0 -

 Arty - hope you find something soon. I found one of the worst things about not having a job was that it was all anyone ever seemed to talk to me about.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Hi Susan, glad to see you back!
I completely agree with that, I feel like I have to keep records to show people that I am looking really hard!! They seem obsessed with if I have found one/if I have applied for job seekers and how me and mr arty are 'coping' (absolutely fine). Had a few awkward conversations but Weezl advised me just to keep reassuring them that I'm fine without going into details and then I have a bit more control over the situation.
Good ole Weezl:p
I meant to say in my above post, if people are unable/unwilling to attend the skype meeting that is of course fine and someone there will report back to the thread with the ideas discussed. (Just dont want anyone to feel pressured to make time if they cant:))

I got given a little booklet by the Job Centre which I was meant to record what I was doing in - I think you were meant to do a certain number of things per day or per week or something and I kept asking for new booklets when I ran out of space but they never asked to see them. Although maybe they don't do them now as I don't remember having them the second time.
I think if you take a while to find a job, people who have never had that find it hard to understand or know how to deal with. My parents only really believed I had really been trying to get a job when my brother graduated and took a while to get a job too. And I have had friends actually laugh when I've told them I applied for 100 jobs before I got one because they honestly thought I was joking.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Families should have the choice to buy frozen fruit and veg for a Healthy Start
‘Cheating’ in the kitchen to make healthy dinners is no longer a sin, thanks to top chefs like Delia Smith, who have recently come out of the closet in their use of frozen fruit and vegetables in cooking.
Frozen fruit and vegetables can be just as healthy as fresh produce, that’s why the Government is launching a consultation that will, if agreed, see the Healthy Start scheme let low-income families put their vouchers towards the cost of frozen fruit and vegetables as well as the milk, fresh fruit and vegetables currently allowed.
It means that vulnerable pregnant women and young families with the greatest need will have an added incentive to give their children the best start in life.
Under the proposals, families would benefit from:
• More choice: being able to buy either fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables would mean they can buy whatever most suits their needs.
• More value: frozen fruit and vegetables can compete on cost with fresh fruit and vegetables.
• More flexibility: where fresh fruit and vegetables aren’t going to be used straight away frozen fruit and vegetables can help reduce overall food waste - you can use as much as you need when you need it and store the rest.
• More ways to meet the 5-A-DAY goal: eating at least five portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day can significantly reduce deaths from stroke, some cancers and coronary heart disease. So anything that encourages pregnant women and young families to eat more of all kinds of fruit and vegetables can only be a good thing.
Mums and dads can confidently cook with frozen fruit and vegetables because the nutritional value can be at least as good as fresh. In fact, as well as counting towards your 5-A-DAY, frozen fruit and vegetables contain as many, if not more, vitamins than poorly stored or prepared fresh produce.
Secretary of State for Health Andrew Lansley said:
“We’re looking at including frozen fruit and vegetables in the Healthy Start scheme.
“Healthy Start helps more than half a million pregnant women and low-income families by giving them vouchers that can be used to buy milk, fresh fruit and vegetables, and also coupons which can be exchanged for free vitamins for women and children.
“Plain frozen fruit and vegetables count towards your 5-A-DAY and can contain as many - if not more – vitamins than poorly stored fresh produce. Frozen goods are often cheaper than fresh and they can last longer, so there’s less food waste too. This would mean that families on Healthy Start have access to a much greater range of produce all year round.
“Eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day can significantly reduce deaths from stroke, some cancers and coronary heart disease, so it’s important that people have enough.”
Nutritionist, Amanda Ursell, said:
“Families need easy access to healthier food, and a bag of frozen fruit or vegetables from the local corner shop when fresh produce isn't available can be a healthy lifeline to go with any meal.
“Frozen fruit and vegetables give parents far more flexibility so it makes complete sense to include frozen fruit and vegetables in Healthy Start.”

Hello All
First day back at work off is nearly over thank God... just dropping in to say made the Brownies last night and everyone in the office LOVES them, says they're very moreish despite the fact my presentation leaves a lot to be desired! Think I should have left them to cool for longer before slicing as they're more lumps than squares, but everyone thinks they're DELICIOUS! So big thumbs up for the Brownies here! :T
Very easy recipe to follow too, will def be doing them again - though as others have said, will probably use less sugar. I used 280g and they are sweet enough to me, could probably go down to 200-225g and not notice much difference tbh. Am also thinking a possible Rocky-Road style adaptation could be on the cards, with some added raisins/fruit/nuts/crunchy bits... will let you know if I try it!
Catch y'all on Skype later I hopeHope everyone's having a good day so far.
