    Super frugal tea here tonight.

Fried some bacon and onions in the bacon fat, added some CFR pizza sauce, a bit of the pasta cooking water and heated through served with pasta, very scrummy.

There are going to be some interesting meals in the MDW as I'm trying to make room in the freezer, and as I'm rubbish at labelling stuff, it's 'I have no idea what we're eating until it's defrosted'

ok :) so the crimbo planner now has drop scones, and onion rings and an extra shopping list for those who want to save even more money.

    Hope everyone is ok.

    Hugs where needed.

Oh xmas planner is sounding good :)

    I EVENTAULLY have windows :D
But it wasn't as easy as I had hoped... but will leave that for another time... hopefully everthing is sorted now :)
I now have to get my finger out, and get decorating... every room in the house, except the bathroom :)
But to be honest, they all needed doing.
I will be plodding along to finish them all... a wee bit at a time.
It will keep me busy ;) (I was gonna say it will keep me out of trouble, but thats not likely ;):rotfl:)
The living room is getting done first.... I am stipping wallpaper just now, then it needs skimmed as I have some luuuuuuvly 80's artex on the ceiling :rotfl:
Anyway, as such, I haven't really had much chance to test anything this week... I have had baked spud with salad for dinner the last 3 nights :o:rotfl:

    Hope everyone is well
    xx

TY very much pet. He cant eat pasta, we dont eat curry or anything spicy, so food choices in this house is a tad limited :rotfl: I will cert try the liver with bits of bacon and maybe sausage. Sat on a pile of mash!

No problem Mardatha - my friend has text back, she says it's fine to leave out the toms, she just adds them for extra colour and to get more veg into her boys! She's really chuffed you liked her recipe too. :)

Weezl - think my friend is getting the CFR bug, she also told me about an Italian Cottage Pie she made tonight, one of her regulars, basically trad cottage pie but with bolognese sauce instead of 'plain' mince, she fed 7 for £3, 42p a portion so have asked her to send me the recipe when she has time (am off work next week so won't see her), sure you can frugalise further if it'll be of some use? Have also asked her to rack her brains for more cheap meals she makes that her kids love and she's said she'll have a think and type some more up. :T
  • I've been a bit quiet recently cos RL got in the way! Am still trying to work my way through freezer to free up some space too - buit each time I get some thing out there is a pot to go back in from the meal!
I got given a 16k bag of bread flour this week, so will be baking lots of bready things. Have only bought 3 loaves of bread in the last 3 week, but was beginning to run out of flour, so that has helped. Will be looking for receipes for different breads using bread flour to avoid kids getting bored.
Have got a piece of pork in fridge so hopefully will give most of the christmas day meal a try tomorrow.
Going to try to cut the grocery spend down by loads this month - but also trying to loose weight so will have to see how I get on

    Hey Stressed

Sounds like a plan - if you want to literally stop the kids getting bored and get them to give you a hand with making tea, you could make pizza with them? Bet they would love kneading the dough etc and especially putting the topping on their own pizzas!

Am sure you're well acquainted with the Cheap Family Recipes site anyway, but here's the links to recipes on there that could help you use up all that bread flour and keep your shopping bill down this month, hope you find them useful:

Just been wandering around the Christmas Planner, the link in the Houmous recipe doesn't work

It was scrabble around the freezer tonight as I've not done my food shopping yet. It's on the to do list for tomorrow.

Made the shepherdless pie tonight and it was delicious. The recipe has changed since the one i've printed off though. So I now have the new version to try sometime. Thats the trouble with being so behind with the testing. Next time I would cook my potatoes for longer before going in the oven though, as they didn't cook in the oven until it had been in there about 30 minutes and then was only just beginning to brown. Your picture looks like you cooked them for a lot longer than 15 mins!
Now i'm back to cooking again (dad out of hospital, OH cooking whilst i've been visiting)I have a lot to test.

Hope your all well. Been quite on here today!

    venus, Hi,

I have been feeding my men on a very limited budget so I have to confess on sometimes increasing pasta, rice, potatoes etc to fill them up and increase calories without adding much in the way of other ingredients. I stuck to the suggested amount of meat and cheese, sometimes added powdered milk to a sauce to add extra calcium but generally didn't really change things a great deal. One thing I found they loved was the carrot cake so each baking session I made double quantities and they snacked on it whenever they wanted. The scones were another way of making snacks that they enjoyed.

Whenever we cooked a chicken to use over a few meals I would usually eke it out to cover the same number of meals as the planner, but for more people I made extra pastry and made more of the filling by adding a few extra onions and served with more carrot and potatoes. This was one of the places where I have recently added the powdered milk to increase protein and calcium.

We do make more nut butter than the planner for four people by making it slightly more often and I now add an extra few ml of oil to make it go further.

Please feel free to ask me specific questions and then maybe I can answer your queries properly.:)
