We had the salmon pasta tonight ( from the xmas plan) no evap or cream to be found but it was still very lovely just made with milk.

Now that you are thinking of using fresh garlic, you might want to change the method so that the garlic is fried with the onion rather than added at the end.

poohbear, I had a big debate with myself in the charity shop here the other day, they had an electric slicer (circa 1950, matching my waffle maker LOL) but theyre so big, and I couldn't justify givng up so much space for something that doesn't get used so much.

    Weezl!

I like onion rings - but only if they have very finely chopped onion in them, not actual rings of onion, if you see what I mean! So if your recipe will involve chopped onion (maybe to pack more of em in and use up more of that 5kg sack? Depends on how you're doing the batter I guess?), then you'd have a willing tester here! Would go very well with my beloved steak... have only ever had shop-bought ones before.

Hope things are going well today at CFR towers ;)

Edited to add - got a great recipe from my mate at work today for Liver Goulash (sp?), she says it's the most frugal meal she makes and her kids (boys aged 7 & 12) love it. Will type up later if anyone interested? I hate liver so won't be trying it myself, sorry!

She uses lamb's liver but says pig's (as per planner) would be fine. And she has tip for making pig's liver taste less strong - soak it in milk prior to cooking. You'd have to discard the milk afterwards so it's not ultra frugal, but hope it's useful to someone.
