  • no wonder I am so poor. £5.60 an hour in a petrol station and I have 2 A levels, but sadly little ambition.

Work at M&S as a sales assistant/coach. Take home just under £1000 after deductions(tax, NI, sharesave, student loan), before deductions gross is approx £1450 per month.
Works out to between £17000-£18000 per year.
Don't need any qualifications for the job though a lot of people I work with have a degree at least.
  • well i earn £700 - £800 pm (with ni, tax and pension taken out) not much but it pays my bills and allows me to save about £300 a month so i aint moaning :D

I have my own clothing business. I don't take home a set wage - just pay myself what ever I need.

Wages differ quite a bit depending on the area you live in. I'm in the north and would expect a job paying £20k here would pay around £30-35k in the south just because of the increased living expenses.
I just have to say that living in the south does not always mean higher wages.
Quite often the pay is the same and the cost of living is higher.
£2 saver club, over £200 now:
1p a day increase saving. Paid up to middle April

Hear Hear. I work in Central London and am quite well trained, so 17k doesn't seem much... but it's a niche market and jobs like mine don't exist anywhere else, so pretty much stuck here ;)

I am awaiting a pay review, so it should be going up, but it vexs me to a) earn so little b) have little idea about what to do for a living.

I wish I knew what I wanted to do in life. I actually don't mind my job most of the time, I like helping people etc but most of the time the hassle you get from people is just not worth the pay.
There are some jobs that you hate and would still hate even if they paid you a lot more but I would love to carry on doing my job for more pay, I wouldn't even think about leaving then.
