  • I'm a hospital scientist and my take home is about £1300.

I've got a Batchelor's degree, a Masters degree, a two year post-grad diploma, I'm half way through an advanced training scheme and I'm going to need to find a Ph.D to get to the next rung on the career ladder. So far it's taken me 7 years to get this far and I've another 7 to go!

I'm an adult model. And no, you can't have the website address..

How much does that actually pay? Is it as big a money-spinner as the media portrays?

(There'd have to be a VERY specialist niche market who'd want to pay to see my stretchmarks and wobbly bits!:rotfl: )

  • Like ringo_24601 I'm an IT Business Analyst (age 33) also taking home 1,600pm. Started off life as a labourer to a plasterer £500pm in 1992 and now I work along with FTSE 100 companies. Took OU course, then a full time degree and got a IT job soonafter. The money is not great but the holidays, type of work etc make it allright. No point being greedy :o)

I'm a telecommunications advocate (I diagnose telephony/satellite faults and book engineers and stuff). I take home about the same as your OH. My partner does the exact same job in the exact same company - but sits on the other side of the office, lol!

We both have degrees in computing/telecoms. I would advise telecoms over IT work as the hardware doesn't change as much and you don't need to retrain every 6 months!

    Hi Katrina,

Bet you'd be amazed at what people will pay for. We certainly were when we were desperate to earn extra money but wouldn't want to admit to it in an open forum :rotfl:

    Hi Earwig,
My OH is a heating engineer so needs ACOPS. Domestic plumbers do not need this so it may worth him looking into it again. He could do baths, sinks, showers, maybe learn how to tile to a good standard and he could then do bathroom installs. He would just need to get an electrician to certify any electrical work and a Corgi Engineer to carry out any gas work. MY OH used to do this and got about £600 after paying for the guys to certify the work.

My OH gets time off work to complete his ACOPS and it is paid for by the Company - is this an option? It might be worth asking?

Could he do favours for people that need a plumber for a cash donation?

hi my oh is bankrupt so cant have his own bisness at the moment he is very taltented he can tile and in the past done bathroom ect but 90 per cent of the work down here in the south they want you to be self employed and he dosnt want that he want the secuirty of having a weekly wage

it not an option for his company to pay for his acops as he works for them as a pipefitter (its 1.50 more an hour than they pay the plumbers ) so he dosnt do gas and the plumbers on his company dont get to do acops as they contract out all the gas stuff the plumbers basical fit sinks and tolets as they mainly do offices

he dose somtimes do plumbing for famley and freinds but he dosnt charge them they only have to pay for the parts he dosnt like asking for money from famley and freinds and as he wont take money of them they dont ask much as they feel they are taking advanteage of him

i think he needs to get away from plumbing as he cant seem to make that much money from it and he dosnt want to be still working on building sites when his 60 his 34 now i know he would love to do his acops but as i have said before money is the problem we just cant aford it i dont work noone to look after kids and not skilled enough to get a job what would cover the childcare so it just his income what comes into the house so there no way we can even save up to pay for his acops
    thanks earwig

    Hi
I do admin, accounts, export documentaion and anything else that my boss doesn't want to do himself.
I work 35 hours a week and take home £1450 a month with a bonus at Christmas if boss is feeling generous.
