I'm currently employed as 'office manager' for a publishing company but as there are only 2 other full-time members of staff I do just about everything, 37.5 hours a week, 20 days holiday a year. I'm 41 and my take-home pay is £1500 a month. Highly unlikely to get a payrise unless we make a profit this year, rather more likely that at some point next year we will run out of cash and the business will close, and I will be out on my ear... Yes, I do enjoy it, but the instability of working for a small family-run company is getting me down.
so any links to job applications for the NHS would really be much appreciated.
Whilst you are entitled to all of this, getting it is another matter!
You'd get more holidays and a commitment to "work life balance" which actually counts for something; however admin and clerical pay scales are not that great, not to mention that most trusts are now putting new A&C staff onto short term contracts in order to be able to let them go after a year and hence save money.
If you are still nuts enough to want to come and work with us loonies in the NHS, then your local hospital will almost certainly advertise their external jobs on their internet sites and in the local press. Sector 1 also carry lots of public sector jobs. https://www.sector1.net

Well firstly there are also some downers about the NHS but having worked for both small, family run companies and big nasty blue chippers it's by far the best place I've worked. The only problem you may get at the moment is that vacancies have to go to people at risk within that Trust first, then to the wider SHA area so actually getting a job from outside, particularly in admin, isn't that easy. You could do what I did and go in as a temp, then get made permanent and work your way up from there. That doesn't suit everyone - I was able to do it for a while due to a big redundancy package and it can take time to go from temp to perm.
KatrinaC is also right about pay scales - I'm speaking as someone who a senior secretary in the Trust but it's not more than you take home for most A&C staff. Contact your local Trusts, PCTs, etc. if you still want to do it.
With regards to training and mentors - as is the story with most secretarial staff, they never feel they have the time or the right to ask for this stuff, when senior managers think nothing of spending £££ on two days executive coaching! But they do have a right and they should do it!
27 days holiday a year (rising to 33 after 5 years) and working locally might swing it for you!0
