Several of my friends earn six figure salaries and a few are millionaires.

    But are they happy?

    Bloody right they are!!!

(Actually I seriously do mean that. They really are very nice, down to earth, happy people.)
  • My gf's cousin just bought a house for neally a million quid.. in cash.

    He also seems pretty happy.

Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!
  • Self employed in consultancy, £50-£60 per hour, hours vary but usually 2-3 days per week, income not guarenteed like previous job (have good weeks, bad weeks)but gives a better quality of life. Also author working on next book, writing takes ages to do but upside can work from home and I love it, downside takes ages to get any money (apart from initial payment of commision) from sales-batrgain on 2 years from completion for any money to come in.
Quals-degree, Msc and PhD and various bits and bobs (diplomas etc)
Thanks to MSE and all the moneysaving tips I can now work PT (instead of FT) to pay the bills and still have fun!!

  • If you've got 80'000 words done, send some sample chapters off to some agents/publishers. If its fiction you'll need an agent, get the writers and artists yearbook it lists them in there. Send an e-mail first outlining your script/plots/idea etc and asking if you could submit, ignore the knockbacks as fiction is more difficult to get into, but it can be done. I sent off inquiries to around 15 agents last year (many had full books werent looking) and only one was interested and asked for material, but its that one that counts. If its non-fiction approach the publishers with a proposal, if they like they'll ask for sample material, so submit that and then again if like they'll send out for review and then you'll get the yes or no.
Once you've broken into it and have contacts and a publisher who likes your stuff its easier to get listened to, sometimes its a case of timing, my first prpoposal was accepted first time by the first publisher I approached just because it was what they were already looking for, I was really lucky.
But it just proves it can be done, if you love writing do it send it off and if you want to pm me for a chat feel free.
    Best of luck:beer:

  • We are looking at salaries - but how many hours do people do to have to bring in their income

for example in my job - the maximum hours are 35 hours a week. do not get paid for lunches, do not get any other breaks. 9-5. 5 days a week. although i rarely get my lunch. do not get paid over time. Do get bonus and shares though

i also have a degree - but have a job in something not related
