RBS Branch Sale Announcement

If there are any, then they will have received letters to inform them of the change before it happened.
It is almost certain that the majority of people who's accounts transfer to Santander will retain the same sort code and account number, nothing has been said in any of the branch sale information that would contradict this.
If, Santander subsequently decide to restructure their systems and change the sort codes after the sale, then that would be up to Santander and customers would be notified before hand.
So, I'm not sure why you have any concern about your sort code, the change has not occured yet
You will be given new telephone banking and online banking access details soon, so that you can continue to access your bank account during 2012, before the sale, during the transfer and after Santander take over the accounts. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Letter received from Nat West stating that my credit card will be transferred to Santander
I have accounts at both English and Scottish Nat West branches and the English accounts were opened much earlier than the Scottish ones and the Scottish account was not held at the time the credit card was obtained
I wouldn't be surprised if they transfer my English accounts to Santander too in order that "more of my banking will continue to be managed in one place"
Anyone else hold accounts at both English and Scottish branches or did you close the accounts due to transfer long ago ?
I am not pleased about this and I suspect that it is too late to do anythingHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Thats a bit worrying, not received that letter but am north of the border with a Nat-west cc.It will be toast after the 0% deal is done if they pull that stunt.I have a deep burning indifference0

Relatively few RBS English branch customers will see any change to the Sort Code, because the RBS English branch sort codes were originally associated with Williams and Glyns bank so these sort codes can be used by Santander (Until Santander decide to mess around with their structure like they have done for old customers of Abbey, A&L, etc.)
I'm not an RBS representative , I disagree that the sort codes will remain the same simply because they orignate from Williams and Glyns - RBS are retaining some branches with 16-XX-XX sort codes (and Coutts use the 18-XX-XX sort code despite being small)
I suspect that the new sort codes will be on the debit cards that RBS confirm they will be issuing "which will work before, during and after the transfer"Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It is only a standard template letter, it does not actually say that your Credit Card will transfer to Santander, just that Credit Cards are included.
You need to phone the transfer help line to confirm exactly what is going to happen since you have accounts at both English and Scottish branches, that is why the info highlighted your group of customers as needing special attention during the sale.
I would imagine that you will be able to opt which of your accounts the credit card will be linked to and hence if it is linked to the English NatWest account then you should be able to choose for the credit card to remain with NatWest too. But I am speculating, you need to ask them the specific questionDr_Cuckoo3 wrote: »I'm not an RBS representative , I disagree that the sort codes will remain the same simply because they orignate from Williams and Glyns - RBS are retaining some branches with 16-XX-XX sort codes (and Coutts use the 18-XX-XX sort code despite being small)

Look back at what occured when Santander took over Abbey, A&L, etc. the majority of people retained their old sort code / account number for several months or years after the sale. Then, Santander restructured later as part of their own decision process.
Not sure what you are getting at re: "I'm not an RBS representative" ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Can they move you to a Scottish branch if you don't want to move?"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0

Can they move you to a Scottish branch if you don't want to move?
This RBS thread has posts for both RBS and NatWest customers, it gets confusing to follow.
It may still be possible to get the account transferred to a branch that is not being sold, only way to find out would be to ask the bankThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I have phoned the helpline and they know nothing and simply read from a script - apparently my "new sort code card and direct debit card" will be arriving in due course ? - that is the quality of the information provided by the "helpline"
The letter states "we will now be including NatWest credit cards in the sale so that if you hold a credit card , more of your banking will continue to be managed in one place"
This means that NatWest Scottish branch account holders / RBS English branch account holders with a credit card will have the credit card transferred to Santander
The helpline staff were unable to advise the fate of account holders with both Scottish/English branch accounts who also hold a credit cardHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Dr_Cuckoo3 actually is a NatWest customer, so it would be the Scottish branch that is being sold.

Thanks but it was me I'm wondering about, my "pocket money" account is with a UK RBS branch and I don't really want to become a Santander droid."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -

You say the helpline staff cannot give you an answer and yet you are assuming the worst when obviously it is not clear from the information at hand.
Your case is special because you hold accounts at both English and Scottish.
So, ring the helpline again, ask them to arrange a call back so that you can get a definitive answer to your question. Also, ask them if you still have the option to move your account.
Do not let the help desk staff fob you off. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
