RBS Branch Sale Announcement

Thanks but it was me I'm wondering about, my "pocket money" account is with a UK RBS branch and I don't really want to become a Santander droid.
So, check the info here : http://rbsbranchinformation.co.uk/home/personal
And ring their helpline number that you will find towards the bottom of that web page. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Look back at what occured when Santander took over Abbey, A&L, etc. the majority of people retained their old sort code / account number for several months or years after the sale. Then, Santander restructured later as part of their own decision process.
Not sure what you are getting at re: "I'm not an RBS representative" ?
yes , however Santander owned these banks as soon as they took them over , RBS use the 16-XX-XX sort code for some branches not included in the sale and corporate banking , it is also used for agency banking eg Cumberland BS 16 52 21
I state that I am not "I'm not an RBS representative" in order to clarify that I am merely a member of the public who holds accounts at Natwest / RBS in both England and ScotlandHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Can they move you to a Scottish branch if you don't want to move?
They are still sending out forms to transfer accounts to a branch not affected by the sale , however I fear that they have already transferred the affected accounts to the new separate RBS Santander platformHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It still says:Q.
Will my account number or sort code change?
A.
For most customers, your account number and sort-code will remain unchanged. However, for a small number of customers, we will have already notified you that there will be changes to your account details and have provided you with information on how we will support you throughout this process. If you have not heard from us, then it is very unlikely that you will receive new account details. Private, Business and Commercial customers should contact their Relationship Manager or Relationship Management Team with any further questions. If an account number or sort code change is required, we will write to you in advance. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You say the helpline staff cannot give you an answer and yet you are assuming the worst when obviously it is not clear from the information at hand.
Your case is special because you hold accounts at both English and Scottish.
So, ring the helpline again, ask them to arrange a call back so that you can get a definitive answer to your question. Also, ask them if you still have the option to move your account.
Do not let the help desk staff fob you off.
It should be a simple enough question to answer
If I close my superfluous Scottish account - will my English accounts remain as they are now ?
The original deal was that English bank accounts would remain with Nat West and credit cards were unaffected by the deal, so I was only expecting my Scottish bank account to transfer to Santander
Now the helpline cannot even confirm whether my English accounts will remain with Nat West
I suspect that they have already made the decision and closing the Scottish bank account will not stop the credit card being transferredHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I will have some accounts transferring to Santander and some accounts remaining with NatWest - what can I do?

If the majority of customers being transfered to Santander were going to have new Sort Codes and Account Numbers, then the Q&A would have said so.
"Q.

where's that from (I note that RBS have edited the PDF in the link I posted at post 193 - It had more than one page when I posted it)
the website states
http://rbsbranchinformation.co.uk/home/retailletter?extcam-furl-accountinformation
"As a result of the agreement RBS Group made with the European Commission to sell RBS branches in England and Wales, NatWest branches in Scotland, we need to make some changes to a small number of accounts.
If your account is affected by this change you will have received a letter to let you know that we need to allocate you a new sort code, and in some case a new account number."
Everyone transferring to Santander will be allocated a new sort code
re your quote "For most customers, your account number and sort-code will remain unchanged" yes most customers of RBS and NatWest are not being sold to Santander - I think you have misinterpretedHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The branch sale and transfer to Santander is not scheduled to happen until the 2nd half of 2012 so I'm not sure who's accounts you would think have already been changed to have a new sort code.
If there are any, then they will have received letters to inform them of the change before it happened.
It is almost certain that the majority of people who's accounts transfer to Santander will retain the same sort code and account number, nothing has been said in any of the branch sale information that would contradict this.
If, Santander subsequently decide to restructure their systems and change the sort codes after the sale, then that would be up to Santander and customers would be notified before hand.
So, I'm not sure why you have any concern about your sort code, the change has not occured yet
You will be given new telephone banking and online banking access details soon, so that you can continue to access your bank account during 2012, before the sale, during the transfer and after Santander take over the accounts.
The RBS website now confirms that all RBS customers transferring to Santander will be issued with new Sort Codes and some will be issued with a new account number too
It also confirms that the new sort code will be in force this year (2011)
"Your new account details won’t be activated until later in the year so for now it’s business as usual and you should continue to use your existing account details as normal."
