No, I mean the genuine GHD ones, I recall seeing them being featured on BBC Watchdog.

There were numerous cases of them catching fire.

    Seriously?

Oh my word i had never heard this about the GENUINE ghd's !

Im shocked , i thought my worries were only with the fakes......

Maybe i should leave well alone and just let my girls continue using the pair they have which for £20 have been perfect for them up til now lol

joanne d, when your straighteners arrive, the plug/wire thingy will have a hologrammed tag attached to it, with a serial number that you can confirm with GHD online or by phone.

Even if they're fakes, they will still have this hologram. Get GHD to confirm/deny that they're real when they arrive.

I think I know the website you're referring to. I was 'caught' out, too. The GHDs I received look fantastic [and have worked very well], but are not genuine, at least according to GHD themselves.

Part of me wonders whether they are official product, but are perhaps stolen by rogue GHD factory workers, or are manufactured using stolen intellectual property and technology. If they're not real, they're a bloody good imitation, even down to the presentation box and the CD-Rom instruction manual!

    Scary, really.

    Hi Emily.

The site i have purchased from is http://onsale-ghd.com is that the same one you used ?

Peeps , take a look at the site and see how genuine it looks.....it states that they are "official stockists" , there is even the pop up thingy were you can see their certificate.....

Im just not sure , the fact that the website shows as "unknown website" when you check it via the official ghd website checker is the thing which worries me most.

    onsale-ghd.com take a look

Sorry, I ordered from a different site, however it looks almost identical to the site I ordered from.

These 'GHDs' are highly likely to be real and stolen [at best, from a safety viewpoint], or fake [at worst, re: safety].

The problem is, it will be extremely difficult to tell. If they're stolen, GHD will deny all knowledge of their authenticity, as they also will if they're downright fake.

Anyone can put an 'official retailer' badge on their website, it really doesn't meak jack.

On the other hand, GHD's non-endorsement of another company selling GHDs does not necessarily mean the product is fake [look at how many hair salons sell GHDs].

The bottom line is, you've unfortunately bought a dubious product, are unlikely to ever know whether they're real or fake, and will not be covered under manufacturer warranty under any circumstances :(

P.S.- forgot to add that the website you list above does not look that genuine at all. The spelling and grammar is poor, and if you scroll down right to the bottom of the page, there are weblinks embedded in the site that are advertising other non-GHD products that have nothing to do with hair.

You can't tell - can you. They would make every effort for it to look genuine - whether it was or not.

But they don't disguise the fact they're based out of the UK?
We are a China online GHD shop

........ but I would be a bit curious if they sell other things? :-
GHDs are packaged carefully by our shipping department so that the boots are safe from any harm ..............

You will usually receive your bag in 10 to 15 business days

Might just be a poor translation - but does look a bit odd. They also say they will mark the package as a 'gift'. That's potentially a red rag to Customs ........ so you may well, I'm afraid, finish paying VAT and some import duty on the package.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

These websites also sell counterfeit and/or stolen UGG boots. They've mixed their products up.

I still get spam emails from the 'company' I ordered "GHDs" from, asking me to fill in a survey about how much I love my new Ugg boots.

Mike - I read the whole webpage....then i proceeded to order..then i read the web page AGAIN and thats when i saw the "we are based in China" statement. At this point i emailed them straight away to say that i wanted my order to be cancelled !

Unfortunately as i say , by that stage they had my card details. I (wrongly) assumed that because the prices were in GBP , that i was ordering from a UK based Company.

Emily - upon doing loads more research , i have found many MANY websites that are so very similar to the one i ordered from that i can only assume that they are one and the same....

Theres also as site that has been mentioned on here before that i would almost bet belongs to the same people. It's the site which sells fake NIKE products.

OP If you think a (Genuine) company is going to sell GHD hair straighteners at £57 then you deserve to be ripped off, A product such as GHD will would never sell for £57 as the company would be making huge losses.

Just the same as iPhones would never sell for £100.

Pcombo - what is it with people like you who trail around the boards making unhelpful comments such as the one above ?

Seriously...opinions such as yours are neither wanted nor needed

It is true. Plus the title of your comment is quite untrue as you did commit to pay for the goods even though you had doubts over them.

Put it down to bad experience you will know next time you try buy something that is to good to be true.
