HTC Benelux director Mark Moons tweeted last night that HTC Desire owners in that region can expect the Android 2.2 Froyo update to arrive today. A comment on the first link below suggests the update has already been notified to some devices.

HTC have denied this, the rumour began in Holland, it is not at all likely.

    Source please?

The information came from HTC Benelux Regional Director Mark Moon and has backed up by Eric Lin, HTC's global PR and online community manager:

They did say 'start' so it will be staggered. If you have a custom operator ROM, it may take a bit longer. Maybe a very select few will get out today as a test. Maybe they've not activated the update server yet, but out looks very likely to be imminent.
  • Will someone please post any updates on this release and give a review on performance improvements, if any.
It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it.

According to HTC the update is rolling out to Desires across Europe this week.
  • Can I ask what you will all probably think is a stupid question(s)? How will the upgrade happen, I was a bit confused with one of the articles when it mentioned the update would only happen if it was not carrier-locked? How do I know if my phone is carrier locked, and if it is how can I get the upgrade?

You will get a notification message on your device stating there is an update available. It will then be delivered OTA (Over The Air)

Carrier specific ROM's may take longer as they will be pushed out by the network after approval.

Have a look at Settings>About Phone>Software Information. What does it say under Software number?

If your handset has a load of network branding (like the Orange version for example) then you'll only get the update when Orange finish their own version of it (if they ever do).

The only way round that would be to root the phone and load the unbranded firmware (from somewhere like XDA), but that blows your guarantee.
